Most are angry at RW and his drug use and claim it was the start of the downhill spiral of the 2004 season but if you take a step back a take a wider view of the issue you might change your mind.
  • RW scored a 15 on his sample... a 15 is the lowest score that a player in the NFL can get and still test "positive" it designates "occasional use".
  • The second test on the same sample came back a 14, acceptable by NFL testing standards. But because it confirmed the previous test it was scored as a "positive".
  • RW was appealing the test.
  • It is widely known players in the NBA, even players you are watching now in the play-offs would score 3-4 times that if they were held to the same standard.
  • You could not field a major league baseball team if they had the tests of the NFL, they are a bunch of speed freaks.
  • Forget Hockey.
Point being many want to bury RW for his "occasional" use but have no issue with NBA or MLB players doing 10 times the product.

I am not saying what RW did is right just that many need to add some balance to their thinking and consider giving RW the benefit of the doubt comparatively.

Ricky knew the risks of leading that lifestyle while being a player in the NFL. He got caught. He admitted not taking the proper steps not to get caught. No sympathy here, he messed up.

regardless rules are rules.

  • He messed up... he got caught... guess we'll just let the players in the NBA and MLB get a kitchen pass.
  • Nobody is asking for sympathy... just a little more perspective.

There's no legality in "widely known." That doesn't prove anything.

  • Come on... how many times have you seen reports where the actual product was confiscated at the airport when players are traveling
Open your eyes man.

........... what does that prove? Unless there are provisions in the CBA for drug testing which would entitle getting caught with paraphanelia as equal to "a positive test" then it's all moot. I'm not saying that you're wrong. It doesn't mean anything though. You have to test positive for it to mean anything.

15? Wow that's either the masking agent didn't do so well or he really didn't smoke all that much. I thought the dude was smoking an half ounce a day which would put you WAAAY higher than 15.

All I gotta say about the NBA players is Rasheeeeed Wallace.

If that were the case than all the players would've retired.

Baron davis said 80% of the NBA players are regular marijuana users. That is REGULAR users. That is an INSANE amount, it IS widely known NBA players smoke dank everyday, and i even heard some toke during halftime.

Quote

Star nba player Charles Oakley told the New York Post in 2001 that 60% of NBA players use marijuana. "You got guys out there playing high every night," said Oakley. His claim matches a 1997 poll by the New York Times, which claimed that 60% to 70% of nba players smoke pot.

That's not the point though. You can "say" all you want. As far as drug testing in the collective bargaining agreement for every sport, you have to test "positive" not "talk positive" for it to be an issue. You're bringing in a social ethics debate into this.
