DT Dan Williams released by Raiders...

I remember a time when he was projected to us with the 12th pick. We instead traded back with the chargers and took Odrick.
 
IDK if you get the Williams of 2015 than great but he didn't do himself any favors in 2016 in terms of production.
 
Took a big step back last year and must have showed up to OTA's out of shape again. Still an upgrade for us.
 
He's the type of player I personally would like to get in here, to get low and hold his ground against the run, not get pushed back, and occupy blockers. But others are saying Burke wants two penetrating gap shooters. Personally, I'd play Suh next to a Williams type. This is a low cost signing that fits what I'd like. Then you come back in the fifth with another D Tackle. I don't know if the UCLA kid gets that far, but there will be some guys there.

To my eyes, this shapes up to be one of the better drafts to have three fifth round picks in. I think we have a shot to get three solid guys down there.
 
As much as I want a run stuffer, if they are sticking to the same up-field penetrating DT's, he's not really a scheme fit.

Agreed about kicking the tires, but at least Williams isn't someone who should cost a ton. 3-4 mil is probably about right

That is very true Esti, so it probably will not happen. But, like Austin Tatious, I would prefer to see it. If Williams can be had relatively cheaply, then I'm all for it. Keeping our LB's somewhat clean on 1st and 2nd down is very valuable if we want to generate 3rd and long situations.

We definitely need more DT's for the rotation since Phillips has no stamina. We are either going to draft one and/or pick up a free agent anyway, so he seems like someone to consider. If we draft one, it will simply be another penetrator, so IMHO, we would do well to add at least one plugger.
