Dumb Question but why does Miami pick in the 8th spot in the first round but then they pick in the 10th spot in the second and the ninth spot in the third round? The picks are 8, 42 and then 73. I thought they got the 8th position in every round except for trades.

Here is a link to the draft order...

Really that that doesn't explain why. It just shows when they pick. Is it because those three teams all had identical records 6-10? Never mind found it. And the reason is that they have identical records.

Actually only Carolina and Miami rotate picks....8th and 9th in each round....

Bills are part of the rotation also. Teams that have the same record that are not playoff teams rotate as the rounds go on. The Dolphins, Panthers and Bills all finished the season at 6-10.

The rotation has the top team in the order falling to the back of the pack and everyone else move up one spot. The Dolphins pick first in the 1st round, but fall to the back of the pack in round 2. The Panthers and Bills then move up one spot. For the 3rd round the Panthers fall to the back of the line.

This applies to all teams that had the same record. That is why the Rams will have the first pick in the 2nd round and the Colts fall to the second pick.

Really Nublar?...read in one of the papers this morning it was only Carolina and Miami rotating....have to check again...

i think the whole rotation thing is stupid. they lost the coin flip we should be 8th every round, just like the colts should have the 1st in every round. but noooooooooooo

I agree. It doesn't make sense to me.

imo we won the coin toss and we should pick in the same spot all the way through the draft , imo thats why we had the coin toss to indicate which team gets that pick and we won soooo we should have the same pick in each round.

There shouldn't even be a coin toss. There should be tie breakers based on play....record, win/loss percentage in your conference, strength of schedule, etc.

Division record and conference record are tiebreakers, but only for teams in the same conference. If two teams in different conferences have the same record and same SOS it goes straight to a coin toss. It is why you will almost always see the coin toss happening between an AFC team and a NFC team. This year was no different as the Dolphins went against the Panthers and the Seahawks against the Chiefs.
