As he watched the draft board slowly fill up on Saturday afternoon, Derek Dennis’ emotions endured their own NFL-level workout.
“I was still optimistic about having my name called,” the Dutchess County native said of his thoughts early on Saturday, as the NFL completed its three-day, seven-round draft. “I felt like I was probably one of the best (offensive) guards available at that time. I was feeling like I was probably the next one to go.
“As the rounds passed, I got a little worried, a little scared about what was going to happen. I was a little depressed. But then teams started to call, telling me I would be a priority free agent for them.”
Late Saturday night, Dennis’ dream of joining the NFL finally came to fruition when he agreed to sign a free-agent contract with the Miami Dolphins.

I don't think anyone's spot is secure. There will be competition for all positions.

There may be two spots open, but that doesn't mean Incognito's job is in jeopardy this season. I can't see the team starting 3 rookies. In the long run he will be replaced with someone more mobile. The other spot between Martin and Pouncey is definitely in play this year.

Richie isn't the best in the league but he damn sure isn't near the bottom either. At the time Richie was the best available and Miami had bigger problems on the right side, if those problems get sorted out this season then it is time to figure out what to do at left guard and in the mean time if one of the rookies step up and earn the spot, great.

INCOGNITO's solid. Not only that, he's playing out of position. He's a RG who moved to LG (1) because there was no one better; and more importantly, (2) to allow JERRY to play RG. I have no problem w/INCOGNITO at RG at all. MIAMI has more to worry about than INCOGNITO. HEALTH os one of them; what to do w/MURTHA and JERRY is another. And of course, finding a legit "pulling G" to play LG is the biggest issue of all, i/m/o.

So, in 50 words or less, I don't see INCOGNITO as a problem, especially once he gets back to RG where he belongs. Also, I see no problem in terms of ability w/MURTHA or our new T, who did awfully good work protecting LUCK. Even JERRY, who filled in very well at LT on short notice, when JAKE went down. As to GARNER, I expect that there'll be little problem there, either. Because he made the team as a back-up to a younger V CAREY, and when J GROVE and J BERGER both went down in the 1st Half of the same game, he showed A LOT at C. But thru ALL OF THIS, we keep on seeing the same "gap", and it's LG. We need a solid, fast, active "pulling G", plain and simple. I hope that it can be one of JERRY, MURTHA, GARNER or even MARTIN if he can do it. Otherwise, there IS a problem.

Keep an eye on this young man. Won't surprise me if he makes the final 53.

I think he will make the final 53. We need an upgrade at Guard. One of the backup guards will lose there spot. I think we have 3 backup guards and how many of our backups only have 1 year contracts.

seems like we sign an undrafted FA OL every year that we get excited about.....and nothing happens...lmao

Plus, he moved into the center spot when needed.

This fact will not stop the "look who we signed!" threads but every season we and other NFL signed UDFA and they very rarely make the team.

But it is that time of the year so....
