Early X-Mas for Canes Fans

Not happening. Auburn has even stated that Nix is not a serious candidate for the head coaching position and that the inteview was only a "courtesy interview." However, the fact that Nix is interviewing for positions means that he himself is unsure of his job security and wanting to get his name out on the market.

The first thing I hear I will be sure to post it but I can almost guarantee that Nix will be in Miami until after the bowl game at the earliest...

Stay tuned...

You know, I really wouldn't mind bringing Mouse Davis in to replace Nix if/when he's let go.

There are a lot of names being thrown around by 'Cane fans. Gus Malzahn of Tulsa seems to be the most popular hot rumor. Dana Holgorsen of Houston. Chuck Long is another name being tossed around. Personally, I'm a fan of Josh Huepel out of Oklahoma. He's getting some hands-on experience with that spread offense.

Two names coming out of the NFL are Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Browns offensive coordinator and former UM offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski.

I really wouldn't mind Chud or Koetter.

Davis is the architect of the Run and Shoot offense...might be interesting to see it run at UM, especially if we're intent on running the spread.

I'm not completely sour on Nix . . . but if we find a clearly better candidate to be our OC . . . we need to make that move.

It's a ballsy move if Shannon does it as he has already gotten rid of his first choice D coordinator and now this would be his first choice offensive coordinator . . . only so many people u can get rid of before u have to start pointing fingers at yourself.

One thing that hindered Kyle Wright was the many different Offensive coordinators he saw during his time at UM. I don't want Robert or Jacory to have to go thru that. The offense did get better this season, yea it may not be where we want it, but we have to remember we had a ton of freshman on the offense . . . including both QB's and our top 3 WR's. Nix had a few good moments this year . . . he also had some real bad ones. I still wouldn't mind keeping continuaty on offense instead of changing up the entire system next season. If a no brainer OC is available and we can afford him . . . then axe Nix and go after the stud. Just don't cut Nix for the sake of cutting him tho . . . please have a BETTER replacement.

I completely agree. I have been bashed time and time again for showing patience with Nix but my patience is wearing thin at this point—especially after sitting in the freezing cold watching our team just get gutted by Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. It was absolutely ridiculous to watch.

You're correct. If there's a better option out there, and I think there are quite a few, we need to make that move. People keep demanding results right now but I can tell you that it's going to take some time. You're talking about a young team full of Freshman at key skill positions and you couple that in with the fact that Randy Shannon is in only his second year as a head coach and Patrick Nix is in only his second season as the head offensive play caller.

There are going to be some growing pains and patience is a virtue. We're not winning national titles over night. People can talk about Nick Saban and a young Alabama teamm all they want. Fact is, Saban is a proven head coach with a track record and in my opinion, the best damn college football coach I have ever seen. Plus, Saban went out and got a homerun-hitting coaching staff as well. Shannon, on the other hand, went out and took some big swings at guys like Tim Walton and Patrick Nix and it appears that he has wiffed big time on both—obviously Tim Walton as Shannon fired him at the end of last season. However, I do believe that it is safe to say that Shannon has hit a homerun with Bill Young.

Patience.

Part of being a great head coach is building your staff...keeping Nix will ultimately get Shannon ousted...

Nix isn't a serious candidate for Auburn...the fans will not let a coach cut his teeth there..they wan't a big splash...

I completely agree with this. That's why I said, and even Auburn said, that Nix wasn't a serious candidate. My guess is that Auburn will wait until after the bowl game to announce the hire of current Buffalo head coach, Turner Gill.
