I was personally enjoying our three man Qb race, it seemed to me as each guy was fighting hard to get better because they felt they actually had a shot to earn the lead as QB. McCown battling to finally get the starter role and prove he is more than a journeyman and being on a team with decent coaching, John Beck working to redeem himself and learning a new throwing motion, and Henne hungry to possibly do what P. Manning did and grasp the role in his first year. So now we bring noodles in and just hand him the job by default because he knew Parcells and we are paying him the most money? I have the feeling he isn't going to have to earn anything around here? IMO that deflates a team. Sparano even states that he was happy with his three guys in a couple of articles. How do you guys feel about this situation who were pulling for one of our three Qb's to EARN the spot?

You can't earn something you don't deserve. Its like saying I tried really hard in school but couldn't graduate, should I be given a diploma? Same thing with these QB's do you bring in the proven pedigree or do you go with the guys struggling to get their GED's?? :D

What I'm saying is if Beck, McCown, or Henne really starts clicking and playing well I don't see us sending Pennington to the bench and giving one of them the starting role. Pennington's pedigree isn't what it was do to all his health problems.

Oh I agree with that. But we need stability on offense. And Chad brings that stability to the team. That may not result in wins, but it may buy us enough time to develop our two youngsters a bit more... Plus what are the odds that Chad makes it through the entire year uninjured? Henne / Beck will get some playing time this year, but until that happens I'd rather have someone like Pennington running the show. Our defense needs those first downs on offense almost as much as our offense does, and I'm not sure McCown, Beck or Henne can move the chains like Chad can.

In order to build confidence on the team we need to keep our defense off the field AS MUCH AS HUMANLY possible. A 35:25 or 40:20 loss in TOP is going to destroy this young D and split the locker room. That is why when guys like Holliday speak we should all take notice. It isn't just the offense that is going to suffer if we don't address our gaping hole at QB.

Well i would say that when you have 3 QBs and 2 of which Beck and Mccown are suppost to win the job and allow henne to sit dont win and actually allow the ROOKIE to steal there jobs parcells has no other option then to bring in a Starter. You think Parcells wants to start Henne? Its pretty hard to tell Henne and media etc that he will sit when he has easily out performed the other 2 fools, but by adding a respectable vet like Chad Pennington it will allow him to come in and kick Henne outta 1st spot just by default. Sparano and Parcells would rather Henne sit for a season or so and this is the best way of doing it with out causing controversy of why the better man didnt win.
So this is a great internal move to help Henne and the team in the long run.

I don't think Pennington is just being handed the job. If he plays better he will start. If not he won't. I think the coaching staff has decided that Pennington is better than McCown. If that's the case then signing Pennington improves your team. I think they also feel that Pennington is a better mentor than McCown. He's been a starting calibur QB where as McCown has not. Our young QBs will still fight to improve and start. They know Pennington is to old to build a team around.

Pennington has earned every penny he will get paid and the right to be our starter over the QBs we have based on his performance in 8 seasons in the NFL.

But, you want him to have to come in and outplay a rookie and two scrubs to be named the starter even though in order to sign him he will have to be paid starter money? Get real.

Thats just not how it works. In the NFL or almost any other career you can earn positions based on your credentials.

Well you could bring Einstein in right now to our little college, and he would struggle too. A line has to block, and pick up blitzes before a QB can even have a chance to pass, and a receiver has to hold on to the ball before it's a completion. Put Kyle Busch in a Pinto, you think he is winning the Sprint Cup standings, or if his pit crew doesn't change his tires or give him gas. Is that the drivers fault? I am not saying the QB's are blameless, but there are other factors that are just as important to why the QB's are not performing up to this pont.

This thread is a joke right? There isn't a QB on our roster that has Penningtons career stats? Has McCown led a team to the playoffs?

Pennington is an upgrade over McCown. And i personally like the fact that both Beck and Hene will have extra time to develop. If he isn't clearly cleaning McCowns clock in this Qb race, then I believe there is no harm in letting him back up and learn more of the game. We crushed him last year. I would hate to put him in a position where there are unrealistic expectations. Another year in development will do Beck well. Because I can see him starting.. Getting roasted, getting cut, then going to another team and growing into a decent Qb. Whats the rush? We've got him for another 3 years.

I dont get it, i dont know how people make Chad out to be the worst QB ever, anyone who has anything bad to say about him go look at the guys stats they speak for itself.

There is a reason why a 4-12 team who wasn't looking at him starting in the first place, goes out and got another QB and cut him. Culpepper led his team to the playoffs too, and had good stats before he got here...duh
