Edwards or Merriman @ #2

I think he is looking through his draft guides for some things to say about Merriman....

I bet he has never even seen him play!
Yep "common sense" tells me that.

He is a monster 3-4 LB who will fill the McGinest/Porter role

he is an explosive defender who I predict will have double digit sacks in his rookie year

unlike johnson he will be able to defend the point of attack too

Agreed with Edwards.......and couldnt Disagree with you more about Merriman!!!

No defensive player is worth even a top 7 pick let alone a #2

Ok maybe, but he is still not worth the 2, with the rest of talent you leave out of your equation. I don't think you can make him the pick at 2, I could be wrong and if your right congrats.

I wa sjust looking over your old posts, and realized you never have backed anything you have ever said on here, you just say he is the best, or get him, or this guy = this guy.....blah blah, sounds like you dont have your own opinion and and just posting what you hear. Im done!

By your rational that would mean that we should take the kicker from Ohio State...cuz everybody says that he is an instant pro bowler.

Nice whiff.

I'm all for value, as much or more as anyone on this board. I bet sports every day, 40+ wagers per day during college basketball season, and it's all based on a value system researched over the past decade and beyond.

You contradict yourself to remarkable measure. If I went by what "everybody says" then how am I comfortable with Merriman at #2? How can I assert he will be a better pro than Ronnie Brown? Hint: I've seen them play dozens of times each in Las Vegas sportsbooks. The next online scouting report I look at this year will be my first. Merriman has phenomenal instincts, tackling ability and a defensive mean streak. He is everything Derrick Johnson's apologists pretend Johnson is. When there's a naughty blocker between himself and the ball carrier, Merriman will disregard the blocker and explode toward the ball. Johnson looks for the shortest route to loop the blocker, like a center city bypass. At RB, Ronnie Brown will thrill to run into the backs of his blockers and is simply not instinctive enough to be a star NFL RB.

I believe this draft is ever more blanketed in ability than is generally accepted. That is why there is virtually no chance of a trade down at full value. If we do so, it will make the chart gurus whine because no chance it will feintly resemble their chalkboards. Consequently, I have no problem taking Merriman at #2. Just my opinion, obviously, but I think he is a legit Pro Bowler and a disruptive mainstay for a decade+.

Merriman would be a nice player in our D

Are you saying youd rather have Merriman over Ronnie Brown? Ronnie is going to be a SUPERSTAR in this league.

I said Merriman would be awesome and got raked over the coals

forget comparisons to Brown, dude is a Pro-bowler

While Merriman is a stud LB... I would rather have RonnieB, especially since we were able to grab Crowder in the 3rd...
