Eliot Wolf for GM would be my choice

Knowing Philbin isn't going anywhere, I think this would be the best choice for the team.
He probably already knows Philbin and would fit well under Aponte.

And who do you have in mind, and don't say Mangina.....

I love the Gamble idea.

I could support keeping Gaine in house.

Mangini is still a compromise that work for me.

I question is Wolf would have gig like he does if his dad was not the legendary GM he was.

Also, I see the sons of these greats...Chris Polian, Kyle Shanahan, Kurt and Brian Schottenheimer and they are not near their dad's success. Is that unfair to Wolf? Probably, but it does not mean he cannot be upgraded.

I like the Gamble idea as well, and maybe Gaine getting upgraded but wouldn't keeping Gaine be the same as having Ireland? They're built from the same mold.

I honestly want nothing to do with Mangini as a GM for this team.

I think that is unfair to say about Gaine. He worked for Ireland, but my guess is he has his own ideas.

Plus, I want this team to win. If Aponte HAS to stay as does Joe, Gaine could make something work here.

I will stick to this idea though...any quality GM WITHOUT ties to Aponte will not take this job. It is stupid and a career killer.

Wolf would be my choice as well. But, the guy is talented, respected, and connected ... not to mention young. I don't see why he takes on such a big risk as what looks to be a lame duck coach, even if he believes in that coach. Wolf can afford to bide his time until a good clean-slate situation comes.

I look at the teams that have had consistently good drafts recently, and those are the places from where I'd like to get someone. Green Bay is an obvious choice because they already are accustomed to working with Philbin and those systems, but they also always draft well, taking guys like Bahktiari after we take guys like Thomas. They always pluck these gem receivers in round 2 or so, while the only drafted receiver I can remember working out is Hartline in like round 4 or 5. They select pass rushers like Clay Matthews where we pick DB's like Vontae Davis. Every year they bring in quality contributors. I expect this year they'll get one of those 3 talented TE's (Amauro, Seferian-Jenkins, or the coveted Charles Clay type Ebron). If he'd come, Wolf would be my top choice ... but so much goes into scouting decisions, so it's always a bit of a crap shoot when you pick a guy. Is it really Wolf we like, or his bloodlines and the Packers' scouts? How much of their success can be attributed to him? We'll just have to find out.

This guy could be good in the future, but he's just too young an inexperienced right now imo. I cant see Ross or Aponte working with a kid.

Agree 100% on Chris Polian but I don't think Schottenheimer and Kyle Shanahan are good examples.

1. Brian Schottenheimer was good enough at his job to get the Jets to the AFC Championship game with Mark ****ing Sanchez at QB. He's done a good job in St. Louis working with total garbage across the board. I'm not saying he's great, but his resume is good enough for him to get jobs regardless of his family lineage.

2. Kyle Shanahan is a bad OC? The Redskins have an injured, dysfunctional QB who is throwing his coaches and receivers under the bus. Their only legitimately good receiving threat is Pierre freaking Garcon. And still that team moved the ball and scored points. Their problem was a horrible, horrible defense. In fact, I would be fine with bringing Kyle Shanahan here to be our new OC. I think it would be a good hire.

All I care about is whether or not he can do the job. I think Tom Gamble is probably the guy we need out of the candidates who have been thrown out, but I wouldn't dismiss Wolf simply because of his name.

I concur with you Hayden. It is rare for the sons of very successful NFL leaders to exceed the efforts of their Dads. Rare, but possible. I'd be inclined to give him an interview and see how good he is. There is another NFL dynasty, the Mannings, where the playing performances of the sons have probably exceeded the father.
