I don't think he is our answer long term at MLB. He doesn't have the instincts of a MLB. He's often out of position and does not meet the RB in the hole. he gets run over and drug down the field. Ireland missed on this one and he needs to look at the better LB's around the league.

^^^^what i think about this last post

watch the game film. ellerbe is usually in on every play. he covers wheeler's butt when he misses tackles. he always pushes the pile backwards. i think ireland got this one right. Not saying that wheeler is terrible but he definitely needs to tackle better and play pass coverage better. Our coverage on tight ends has been A LOT better than last year. (Dansby and Burnett couldn't cover any TE's to save their life). Ellerbe isn't a pass specialist but he's a run specialist and he's helped a struggling run defense team this year. i think ellerbe was a good pick up overall

The snow was not his friend today, it's hard for a defense to cover sliding around out there

I agree with your response partially, however a Top notch MLB has to be able to lay the lumber to set the tone on the opposing teams offensive players. he doesn't do that to me.

I think Ellerbe has been coming on as of late. This is a new team, new system, new role, new EVERYTHING for Ellerbe. All things considered, he is doing OKAY.

I have been critical of the guy myself but considering all he has going against him while he is adjusting, his play has been solid. I think both he and Wheeler have attributed to our improved pass defense even if it's not as easily appreciated.

Our run D has fallen off because Dansby was a better run stuffer, but I'm fine with the trade off as I think our defense is overall better this year than last. I'd rather give up yards on the ground than through the air.

Really? You can't be serious. Letting a team run all over you is demoralizing, kills clock, kills momentum, creates long drives, and tires your defense.

Ellerbe and Wheeler are both FA misses by Ireland. That is the weak part of our defense and why we are giving up so many rushing yards. Good linebackers make plays in the back field. I would take Karlos back in a second over these two. The next time either one of them makes a play will be the first time since week 2.

Ellerbe isn't a huge miss in FA. He's solid, but hasn't been spectacular. It's Wheeler that is a step backwards from what we had at LB last year. We should have only cut Burnett lose, and kept Dansby in the middle signing Ellerbe to play outside. Would have actually been an ungrade to the LB unit instead of a step backwards. Of course hindsight is 20/20, and when he was here most people hated Dansby.

I think Ellerbe will be fine by next year. But Wheeler? Sheesh.

I do not agree they are FA misses. I believe the goal was to improve the coverage skills of our LBs and to add playmaking ability. The coverage of TEs and RBs from the linebackers is tighter and is competitive. I would prefer better run support, but the coverage was a major weakness of our defense.

I guess interceptions don't count as making plays. Do you watch the games?

I think Ellerbe is ok I think the problem is Wheeler u cant really expect much from the mlb as u use to be able to... teams run alot less nowdays u start to see more and more olbs doing more of the work like davis from Carolina or bowman from sf... they both are making more plays than the mlbs on there teams but doesn't make them better... I believe willis and kechly are the best LBS in the game but they cant do it without the people around them.. I think misi is great but I think since oliver vernon is doing so welll we might see more dion jordan at olb n get ride of Wheeler

Yes I watch the games. Ellerbe made one interception.... wow! I'm more concern with him making tackles 8 yards down the field because he can't get off blocks and takes bad angles. Wheeler is an absolute joke in coverage and he has to lead the league in miss tackles.

Ellerbe isn't as bad as Wheeler but to say he is an upgrade over Burnett is BS. Any team that uses their running backs like the Saints will eat our lbs for lunch.

He actually has 2 INTs. Which is 1 more than Dansby had in 3 years as a Dolphin. Our team is fine. We are 7-6 in the playoff race and that is with us playing tougher teams than we played last year too in a season which our team finished 7-9.. Not to mention our team defense has created 6 more turnovers this year then we did last year. Lets just enjoy the last 3 games of the season because we are somewhere we haven't been in awhile. In a playoff race for the 6th spot.

I think both could be replaceable. Wheeler actually has 9 more solo tackles then Ellerbe does and more total tackles. Im sorry but the MLB should be leading the team in tackles.. Not a WOLB. IDK where i can find how many missed tackles they have, but im willing to bet they missed close to the same amount.

Ellerbe does have 2 int though. Im willing to give him another year. But i have not been impressed at all with him. Ellerbe isnt even in the top 40 in tackles made. Wheeler is #34
