Elton Brown is graded out as a 1/2 in most mocks.

He's huge. He's a mauler. He needs to lose a little weight, but the Florida sun will do that to him, as will NFL pracrices. He's similar to Carey in that once he gets his hands locked on you, you're done. He's just a solid player and would represent OUTSTANDING value at the top of the 4th.

Plus, if he lasts to the end of the 3rd today, barring trades he will be available when we pick. As I said in another thread, SF has taken two OGs and the Browns need DT/OT help. I'm guessing the Browns take Hawthorne and then we have a shot at Brown.

We could get Shazor, but I'm not sold on him. He's solely a SS, and can't be anything more. I would not place that above the need we have for an OG. I mean, to come out of 4 rounds with a replacement DE, an heir apparent to Zach, a franchise RB, and a bigtime OG that was rated #1-#2 on most boards... amazing.

I find it hard to believe that Brown is still available at this point. He's the #2 rated G on NFL Draft Countdown. Any reason why no one has taken him? Boomer, KB?

Because Elton let himself go to the pot at the end of the season. He did only 18 strength reps on the bench, which shows he didn't work hard to get his reps up. He also left the Senior Bowl with a questionable injury, and pulled up lame at the combine. He's done some things that make many scratch their head, and he has somewhat of a checkered past.

He's got a lot of potential at guard, but he may have turned a guy like Saban off with his lack of work ethic.

Thats right. So far Saban has picked VERY motivated VERY aggressive people.

Well, I'd say Hawthorne then, but he's got some issues himself. Though I think he was clean until that one pot issue.

We also have to look at this in context. Besides Brown Hawthorne, who else is available that shows that sort of skill level?
