The Dolphins, a historically winning franchise with an owner committed to whatever it takes to win, have gone out to interview candidates.

I've never had my previous/current employers (albeit all three of them) come to me to interview me. Is the course Huizenga is following embarassing to you as Dolphins fans? I think potential coaching candidates should come to the Dolphins, not the other way around. Also, to me it seems they have no idea who they want to hire and are only going about this lengthy process because they want the team to generate positive versus negative press.

Your thoughts? Are the Dolphins wandering like the Hebrews or is there plan amongst the circus?

He's COMPILING A LIST & GAUGING INTEREST. These are not interviews, just 'official contact'.

How many times does this need to be said? They will come up with 5 names, Joe, Wayne, Mueller (and the other guy) will then CONDUCT INTERVIEWS with the 5 candidates.

I have no problem with Wayne's method. I will have a problem with hiring a coach and giving him full control. That has failed since day one for Wayne. It hasn't worked, so I hope Wayne realizes that.

I have no problem head hunting candidates. It means these people are aware of our interest and shows our own commitment to the candidate if we go to them and perhaps someone who wasn't so inclined to think of the position as ther next destination may do so now. I think it is merely WH using his business acumen to give us the best shot of getting the right person. While we would all jump at the chance to be Miami HC, we have to realise it is not the crown jewel of coaching jobs in the NFL and we need to show some of the people out there that we want to be once again.

Also, WH will, I'm sure, have a couple people who he has decided he'd like to see as the next Dolphins HC, but by interviewing everyone it means that they might just find out something about someone else that they were not previously aware of and then use that information to our benefit. Its better to spend a little longer and be more thorough and get it right than go after your guy and fail, ala Nick Saban.

how would you feel if they DID? I bet you'd feel pretty darn respected, and pretty well liked. You'd think "Wow this guy must really want me for this job." And when it comes down to what owner you'd rather work for, your gonna remember which one actually flew across the country just to speak with you and see if you're interested.

It shows C-O-M-M-I-T-M-E-N-T.

Commitment to building a winning team.
The amount of crap Wayne H. has taken because of this is embarrassing to me as a fellow fan.

Wayne H. and his staff is the only thing this franchise has left going for it.

My thesis is the Dolphins are prestigious enough a franchise that becoming its head coach should be something sought after, unlike say, becoming head coach of the Raiders. Coaches should be sending us their credentials, not the other way around.

How about let's get off of our high horses and realize we are not the same franchise we use to be so we have to now cater to the people we feel are good candidates.

I think the only people who are willing to do that are those who are Dolphins fans and have us at heart. Perhaps previous employees, poeple who grew up wth the Dolphins, but not your general NFL HC candidates. There are other jobs out there that many would see as more suited to what they want and unfortunately that doesn't include the Dolphins, which is why Wayne is out there promoting us. While someone with us at heart would certainly be commited to the job and organization, they are not necessarily the best candidates for the job. WH flying out to see these people will in turn get them to think diferently about our organization and hopefully decide they'd like to work for us.

Agree in theory. But Saban smeared our organization with the manner he left us, and this is a chance to restore some of the luster to our franchise. Bring the plane. Bring the brass. Show the candidate respect by trying to make the meeting as convenient as possible for him, especially if his team's in the playoffs or just got knocked out of them.

It's like recruiting. You can sit back and let someone else get your athlete or you can go sell him on why he should be playing for you. I don't think we're groveling, I think we're being classy. JMHO.

The real question in this regard is:

Has oneone contacted the Dolphins? I am curious. There is nothing worse than the feeling of having to sell someone into a job. There is nothing better than someone that really bangs down your door.

I was flying around the country in my personal jet the other day

boy was I red-faced
