Emmitt Smith could’ve been a Dolphin

Really Don?

Crazy to think about how things could have changed. The biggest: Dan tearing his achilles. A new person like Emmitt enters the scene, different plays are being called etc. The infinite possibilities means Dan could have gotten hurt a different way. Or...maybe he stays healthy and gets that ring.

According to the statement from Smith, he wanted the Dolphins to make him an offer the Cowboys wouldn’t match. All Smith was trying to do was get as much money as he could at the time.

It should be noted that Smith was free at the time to get an offer from every team in the league and yet no team offered him a contract except the Cowboys.

Funny how Smith waited until Shula is no longer around to give his side of the story. I’ll stick by Shula in this case because I have no doubt he didn’t want to pay Smith the money he was looking for, while also having to give up 2 first round picks for a running back. Especially when the Dolphins offense was centered around the passing game.

Emmitt would have been dumb for leaving that Dallas o-line. His HOF bust should be a group statue of that entire o-line instead.

His vision and ability was excellent. Sure he had a great offensive line but he was an excellent runner with unquestioned toughness and durability.

Make it sound he had the same line for his entire career but guys like Allen didn’t come till 94

I remember watching, I believe ESPN Top 10 reasons Dan Marino did not win a Superbowl. And the #1 reason was the franchise did not do enough to support him with personnel.
People who chide Grier for some personnel decisions should take a gander Miami history in the late 80’s…

How old was Emmitt at the time,?
