Let em celebrate! I know I'm not the only one that fell in love wit the sharpie outa the sock routine or Joe Horns Cell phone, or the pom poms, or CJ's christmas gifts. I think they should be part of the game I hate the new rules
 
I prefer celebrations of the achievement rather than celebrations of the player. The fun-bunch, Lambou Leap, spiking the ball, etc, all seem like honest celebrations of reaching the goal. Stuff like the Sharpie thing, the cell-phone stunt, and Emmit Smith taking off his helmet seem more about the player celebrating himself. Sometimes entertaining, sometimes not. Almost always pre-conceived and uninspired.

Those self-celebrating celebrations probably should not be against the rules, but I'm not going to shed a tear about it.
 
I completely disagree football is a sport not a dance contest I think instead of danceing around like a fool they should hand the ball to the ref and go back with their team.

Ah, quit trying to sound so grizzled.

Let 'em have their fun. Not only is Football a sport, its a game. It is predominately about entertainment. The precident for this has been set. The Icky Shuffle, the "Who Dey" thing the Bengals did, hell, the NFL network's joking NFL Big Man Dance Challenge. Let the guys have some fun, it gets the fans into it, and its not like it hurts anybody.

To say it hurts the integrity of the game, and is unprofessional seems silly to me. We often lose sight that these are people being paid to entertain us. They aren't about to show a pie chart in a board room discussing losses, they're throwing a leather ball to other people, trying to get it to the end of a field. There's room for silliness.

Oh, and CJ's Marriage Proposal probably tops my list as far as the best, silly, contrived celebration to date. Yeah, he's arrogant. Yeah, its a side-show. But the guy is a lot of fun, and I'd love to have him on our team.

No they are not being paid to entertain us they are being paid to play football. If danceing is entertaining to you may i suggest figure skating, ballet, or The Opera. as for me I go to the game to watch the greatest sport in the world.

Football is the greatest game in the world GAME, it's fun and entertaining to the fans that watch it, the celebrations I believe are an extension of this entertainment. Chad Johnson is just having fun out there, I love the celebrations as long as they do not involve bashing/embarassing the other team. I was and always will be totally against T.O.'s star incident (twice) as it disrespected the Cowboys organization. However short of that I give the players credit for their creativity, it may not be a necessary part of the game and players should know what situations a celebration is acceptable, I wouldn't approve of anything short of flipping the ball to the ref when a team is up 28-0. However in a close game let the emotions go, momentum can feed off a celebration it builds confidence. I'm Pro Chad Johnson Baby!!!

How can it be a fun and entertaining game on one hand and disrespectful to do his star stance on the other? Thats a contradiction. You scored? Great, you did what you aimed to do. You dance and do ******ed rehearsed scripted "celebration"? You're rubbing it in my face and thats disrespectfull.

You cant have it both ways. I'll watch WWE for "entertainment" I watch football because i have a love for the game. I love the strategy and nuances and how every possesion is important. When some people feel a need to draw attention to themselves, they disrespect the 10 other guys on their unit that made it possible for them to score.

Honestly...play the game. Play hard, play fair, but leave the antics and celebrations at home. I thought Billy White Shoes Johnson was a trip when i was a kid. When i started playing i realized that all the California Quakes, Smurfs and Fun Bunches take away from the greatest team game there is.
 
Well I know I'm not in the minority who likes the TD celebrations in a recent Sportsnation poll on espn.com over 20,000 people voted and a whoping 75% or more I forget but at least 3/4 of the people were totally against the new rules and liked the celebrations these players arent little elementary school kids they aren't goig to get "their feelings hurt" and if they are, awww poor baby go look at your bank account you'll feel better. I like the celebrations and the players that do em know the majority of the fans like em and their teamates do too if they didnt....THEY WOULDNT DO EM! I'm sure if Chad Johnson's teamates were offended at all they'd let him know and he'd stop. But they havent his team has embraced him.
