in all FAIRNESS............... .
since the racial thing seems to be taking over as the issue in the cogmartin show, then lets get absolutely fair about it and address it from ALL angles.
first off, i would love to see [but we wont] some sort of "CRACKER" [not at c-word status for some reason] and the dreaded "N-WORD" comparison as far as which gets used the most AGAINST the other race, in other words is it dead even or completely lopsided to one side or the other. EVERY LOCKER ROOM/GAME/PRACTICE has had these things happen.
and i dont want our dolphins persecuted for it all because it has happened in every sport, every team in jr. hi, hi school, college and pros. from EVERY RACE!!
CASE IN POINT: my wife and i were at a friend of my wives sons hi school baseball game last year. during warm ups, a black kid from our friends son team came running by where we were close to the front in the bleachers and yelled out to a team mate, "cracker azz biatch tried to knock me out". in front of us there was a woman and her 2 young daughters and i heard the mom say, "what is the cracker thing, i have heard this at games before"........ . the older of the two girls kind of whispered something to her and i saw her turn away for a second and shake her head bit and turned back and said, "are you kidding me? thats what it is"? more mumbling from the kid and then a dazed look for the rest of the game. my wife and i justed looked at each other with a "what rock has she been under" stare.
but, i know others heard it. i didnt see anyone from the team or any refs or other parents do a thing. or say a thing [that i could hear].
i have been called cracker many times to my face in sports when i was a kid. honky was a bit more popular then and was used more, but the dreaded c-word got in there. and i can say before GOD himself that i have never seen a non black person use the dreaded n-word toqards a black person just for the sake of calling him/her out. i have seen it when provoked racially first, but never someone calling it out to them for no provocation. have seen it PLENTY the other way around. and i know non blacks HAVE done it, but, its lopsided.
now, PRIVATELY, who knows how often a member of one race uses a racially oriented term towards another. but, i can tell you for absolute certainty on my poor dead mothers grave the C is much, much more OPENLY tossed around than the N. by FAR!!! in my youger days AND today.
so, before lighting the torches, my ONLY POINT IN THIS is i do not want the dolphins organization to take the hit and be the scapegoat for something that has been going on before ALL of us here were born. IF they want to address this issue without a quick scapegoat sacrifice to appease the nfl dark lords THEN BE FAIR!! make the decisions and mandates and punishments be ACROSS THE BOARD without prejudice of how or why it was said and what race the offending person is. RACIST is a VASTLY over used and MISUNDERSTOOD term and that needs to be addressed and included in any kind of mandate or indictment. one racial slang from one group or another is NO MORE OFFENSIVE than another weather one wants to accept that or not. no "reverse" racism as there is no such things [unless your a professional race baiter/agitator who makes their living at it.
SEND THE MANDATE OUT TO ALL TEAMS, ALL PLAYERS AND THE PLAYERS UNION. let all know that no matter what the situation, joke, anger, taunt or harassment you will be GONE. and without pay. and make it so severe players will shake in thee cleats at the very thought, no 1,000 dollar fine for a player who makes a million per game. and any SECOND offense, your OUT of the nfl, nba, baseball, tddleywinks, whatever.
IF PEOPLE can not get over themselves and allowing some silly word or words to control their emotions, anger, self worth or self control than the powers that be, in and out of sports need to spread the wealth of fairness and make the consequenses known and enforce them with resolve.
but making the dolphins or any other team or any ONE individual from ANY race a scapegoat/sacrifice over this seemingly endless nonsense will NEVER solve the problem. either COME DOWN HARD AND FINAL TO ANY PERSON OF ANY RACE who violates it or dont even bring it up. take it out of the equation.
THATS FAIR!!!! weather your "team" cog or "team" martin, fair is fair and THAT is what needs to be addressed and enforced!!
