O.K., we had a bunch of crap with Martin and Incognito. The Wells report is out and I say big deal. We are not a damaged franchise. We're not the losers of the Western world. We're a football team that had a couple of jerks who are now gone. If you think Martins' ever playing for the Fins again you must also believe in the Tooth Fairy. Everyone wants to pile on including our own sportswriters, half of our own fans and NFL pundits. This will blow over very fast, were not losing draft choices, just cut the crap already. Having said that I'm not sure Philbin isn't the most clueless Coach ever. If he didn't know what was going on he's beyond stupid, if he knew and didn't lift a finger to stop it he's beyond stupid. I hope he learns from this horse**** and becomes more aware of what's happening with his team and cuts the cerebral I'm above it all crap. Tune in and get a clue Joe. With all the problems we still came close to the Playoffs and that's with the ultimate moron Ireland as GM and the washed up relic Sherman as OC. We will benefit by addition by subtraction. We have much better talent in place. Free Agents WILL come to our team. Ross has deep pockets and that's what matters in todays' NFL. If there's a player that doesn't want to be a Dolphin then screw him. We have 30 million and that's before cuts and restructures. Without Ireland making every wrong move under the sun we have a real chance to vastly improve. The o-line will be fixed, we'll get a bigger and better RB and we'll get a linebacker to fix the run game. I'm sick of the doom and gloom and the endless aholes taking shots at our team. We'll be much better next year, all will be well and then what will our detractors say? Give Tannehill time to throw and a run game. Watch what happens. Plug in a Zach Thomas type run stopper and watch the difference on D. Enough about the 2 biggest losers ever to put on a Dolphin uniform, Incognito and Martin. They're out, now let's turn the page.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. why don't you be realistic? This team has been average since the late 1990's. It's an organization with mediocre brains - that draft mediocre players. Your passion is more than any one in the organization, as a matter of fact this board has more passion than anyone. Compare it to the workplace - if you hire bad talent you can essentially have a poor bottom line. Talent Pro's in this organization have been clueless for almost 20 years. Think about that. So wouldn't the head coach be clueless too because he is an apple from the tree? Think of the roller coaster ride we have been on - from Marino, we were all of a sudden convinced for 5-6 years we could win with a manageable qb, then passed on Brees, then finally we thought we had an architect in Parcells, who set us back even further. Finally look at the mess we are in now. You don't think this team is mediocre in all areas? Pouncey may be a Pro Bowler, but is he a leader? Wake goes games without showing up. And the beat goes on. the only solution is if the ownership changes and someone brings in a true talent finder. During the GM chase it was c lear that these talent finders didn't want to work here. we chose candidate #5-6, maybe lower if you count people that declined interviews. Just get over your self. this team is the new Browns on the NFL.

The point of the thread is that I'm tired a dwelling on the negative. I don't think things are hopeless. I don't want to go back 20 years. What's the point. In recent history (5 or 6 years) I blame Ireland for a roster that is built incorrectly. One blunder after another. I feel with a new GM, whoever it is, better days are on the way. Additonally, Sherman was awful so a new OC with a backround in the Eagles' offense has to help. I don't want to go back in history and talk about Brees and Parcells. Who cares anymore. What does that have to do with 2014? Wake was hurt last year. It was a tough leg injury. Look at film before his injury like the Dalton sack in the Bengals game. You relive the bummers if you want I want to turn the page on the negative stuff and see what the new GM and OC can bring to the table. My feeling is that they will do very well. I'm not sure what get over yourself means but I've been following this team longer than most, I'm VERY aware of how lousy we've been, I've lived through many dissapointments from Cam, to Nick to Dave to Tony etc. I've lived through every crap QB since Marino but I now believe we've found our guy. I'm going to be positive about my team weather you like it or not. If I'm let down so be it. I would hate walking around feeling no hope like you do. You must expect rain every morning. By the way , if you want to make a business comparison envision a company that has performed poorly but now they hire two new executives in very key positions. Will they fail just because the guys that replaced were failures? Of course not. I have great hope that things will improve and you don't like it. The glass isn't always half empty. Let's save these posts and see how the season turns out.

Candidate #5-6, as you describe Hickey, has 18 years experience evaluating talent in the NFL. Before declaring him a disaster, why don't we see how he goes. At the end of the day, he needs to work well with the Head Coach and find football talent. He actually has a far superior track record of finding talent than #3-4 on your list, who were more accomplished public speakers who could promote themselves (Farmer and Dawson -neither were offered the job). Caserio may have been better but it sounds like he was negotiating for total power and his talent evaluation skill is not certain when we all know that Belichick makes all of the decisions in New England. Gaine was Ireland's right hand guy. We should have had a good handle on what he brought to the team. The only candidate that we may have missed out on was Licht, who took the Tampa Bay job rather than coming back for a second interview.
Years from now, we will learn if Licht or Caserio or Farmer or Dawson or Gaine were superior candidates to Hickey, but be open to the possibility that you are wrong. We had a number of very smart people involved in the GM search process and the dice has been rolled. Before declaring it a disaster, let's see how Hickey performs.
I assure you that he will be trying very hard to prove you wrong.

It'so hard to predict with all of the unknowns. But, I'll say 10-6 and a trip to the playoffs.

People having a positive or negative outlook won't make the Dolphins a better or worse team.
Why is there such concern what other people choose to think?

I really like where Spiketex is coming from. Hickey has, as you say, 18 years making decisions on talent. I believe he will finally fix the o-line which has been our biggest problem. Who is to say how well Farmer or Dawson would have worked with Philbin. It might have been a clash of egos similar to what we had with Ireland. Hickey seems like a team player who works his butt off. I think we made the right hire despite what anybody says. I think Ross got it right, time will tell, but I have a good feeling about him. I also like Lazor. Young, dynamic and fresh off doing a great job in Philidelphia. I think Tannehill will benefit bigtime from Lazor and the whole offense will have a fresh, and much more modern and exciting look. The problem with the team other than Incognito and Martin was Ireland and Sherman. They are all gone and we will be a much better team for it. A sideline to sideline linebacker, a bruising RB who falls forward after contact and a o-line that gives Tannehill some time to throw and things will improve imo. Why not be positive about 2014? Because you're scared of being let down? Give me a break!

Grey, you're right. I'm just weary of coming to this site and seeing so much negative stuff. It's like 90% negative. I've been posting here for years and I've never seen so much negativity. It won't effect the win loss record but it's making it a bummer to visit this site and I like coming to this site.

Yes, let's try to be positive on a go forward basis. By the way your remark was very clever and funny.

Anyone got the cliff notes for this thread?

One sentence from the OP is all you need to read: "If he [Philbin] didn't know what was going on he's beyond stupid, if he knew and didn't lift a finger to stop it he's beyond stupid. "

So let me get this straight. Philbin is stupid? Am I right? Did I miss anything?

You can predict 10 wins when we haven't come within a game of that in the past 5 years, before free agency, before the draft, before you see if the new OC has improved the offense, before you know what holes are filled or left unfilled, and before we know if our center is going to be suspended for some number of games?

Okay, I'm all ears. Show me where we get 10 wins. Here are our games for next season.
