Enough with the Dolphins’ first pick; what about the second?

Besides the obvious reason (money, potential, etc.) i think there is more talk around #1 because the other pics depend on what we take @ #1. If we go Chris Long @ 1 we absolutely have to go OT at 32, if we take J Long @ 1 we can afford to go ILB, CB or WR at 32.

I think we'll be taking Curtis Lofton with our 32nd pick. He's a better fit into the 3-4 than the other two top ILB's (who will probably be gone anyway). His timed speed is a little slow, but if you watch film of the guy he's more than fast enough.

In a perfect world, I'd like us to get him at 57, but realistically, I don't see him making it that far down the draft board.

However, it all depends on who is available. Every year there's a few guys who were projected to go in the first round who slip to the second, and considering our overall lack of talent, we may just take the best player available.

EXACTLY!!! There have been other posts about this too but there's no sense in even talking about 2nd round picks until we see who Miami gets at #1 because whoever they get with that first pick GREATLY effects what they do with the rest of them. Unless of course you're already convinced who you think Miami is taking at #1 overall. In my opinion if they take Jake Long they can just pretty much go BPA the rest of the way but if they take anyone other than Jake at #1 overall then they are almost forced to go OT with their 1st 2nd rounder.

like a couple of the other guys said, depens on we we take at 1.....if we don't take Jake Long then is %99 sure that we go OT at 32....if we do take Jake Long at 1 then we could go OLB,Corner,WR or even TE tho I don't think we'll go TE that early....however we could even go DT or ILB or even QB if they want 1 tho I hope not.

Ozzy rules!!

I think our first pick in the second could be as important, if not more so, than the #1 pick. Why? Because we will have a LOT more options come the #32 pick. If a great talent slips past teams at the end of round 1 (which there is a good chance of happening), do we grab him regardless of need ? Do we go BPA within our positions of need ? Do we trade down a couple spots, middle, end of the 2nd in order to get more picks? (I see this as very likely possibility, if we still think we can get 1-2 players we are wanting here). I MUCH more nervous about that pick than the #1 pick. Only because we all know it's probably going to be one of about 5 guys. And we know we probably won't be trading out of that spot. With the top of the second, there will be a lot of teams wanting to trade up to get that QB, RB, WR, etc. that they REALLY want, but don't know if they'll be there come their pick. And since money won't be a problem like it is with the first round, we can sit back and wait for the offers just to flow in and then either take who we want or pick that trade offer that's just too good to pass. :hi5:

I wonder what would be good compensation for the first pick of the second round? 2 2nd's? The pick is essentially a 1st since NE had to forfeit a 1st so would they be able to pull off a late 2nd this year and a 1st next year?

I still think we take a QB,with a whole new front office and coaching staff (that didn't draft Beck) and going on the tape they saw on Beck,I say they grab a QB to put some compitition in training camp, and there's no way going on Beck's performance last year, that he's sold himself to this new group.

Probably depends on which draft index you look at, the new one they just came out with or the old one they've used in the past.
If we trade with Atlanta or someone a few spots behind us, we probably will get a 3rd or 4th (depending). But if we move to the middle of the 2nd or later, the price tag would be multiple picks including this and/or next year. I'm guessing the FO will be fielding a lot of offers and counter-offers telling them they are going to have to do better because other teams are beating their offer. I'm guessing we'll get a pretty sweet pick for only moving a few spots or we'll get a bunch of picks (or high one's next year) for moving back further in the 2nd. I don't think we'll just give it away, as the need and the cost we'd be asking for that, would be too high for most teams.
