I'm hearing that Eric Shelton, the RB injured last year in TC from the Carolina might be coming available. The Panthers have DeShaun Foster and DeAngleo Williams on the roster and DeNick Goings is a proven backup. Rumor is this might make DeEric Shelton expendable.

He was productive at Louisville, scoring 20 TDs his last year there. He is big (6-1 245 lbs) and he plays big. He runs between the tackles well and is good in short yardage. The Panthers drafted him in the second round in 05 and he is only 22 years old.

I did hear some rumblings that he was having trouble with the blocking schemes, but that aside, I think he is worth looking at. Is he better than KJ Harris and Gerald Riggs Jr? If so, I hope that NS considers bringing this guy in. I don't know if he will be cut outright, or if it would take a late second day pick to get him, but it is certainly worthy of consideration.

I know that we could use a big back to take the short yardage abuse that we don't Ronnie taking.

Anyway....

It took me a while to get your joke, sadly enough, but that's pretty funny. DeNick and DeEric. LOL.

He could very well be better than Kay-Jay. But I don't think our team is interested in trading picks away right now. Of course if Shelton gets cut we'd be among the teams putting a waiver wire claim on him, but chances are some other team would get him ahead of us.

and I certainly wouldn't want to trade away anything more than a fifth rounder for him. But considering, when you take a player after the fourth round, you are taking a "chance" pick anyway, he might be worth it. Certainly the Panthers took him in the second round for a reason. And if he could help us this year (and at his age, in the future as well) and it would cost us a fifth round next year, then I think its a trade worth considering.

All of this to say that this is pure speculation. I don't know that he will even be available, and if so, I don't know what the Panthers would want in return.

I want KJ to get the nod. If given enough time he will prove to be a valuable #2

If he's having trouble with the blocking schemes then I don't think he'll be an upgrade with what we have in camp. Unlike Kay-Jay Harris whom was able to spend last year on the Practice Squad, I don't think Shelton will be awarded that luxury.

Goings is a special team demon. Fox likes Shelton for his size in short yardage and he is the only one he has left for that now. Foster is finess and Dangelo I see alot of Barry in the way he can stop on a dime and turn on the jets but can't run anyone over. Shelton had a awesome preseason last year and I'm sure that with Stephen gone Car will keep him.

By the way what is the purpose of drafting a RB 2nd overall that weighs 234 and you don't want in the game in a short yardage situation?

Living in Charlotte I can tell you that the local Sports Radio Station consistently bashes Shelton and have on several occasions quoted unnamed team sources as saying this guy is a total bust. I don't think he is what they are looking for even if he were to get cut. Also, he wasn't put on IR because of injury... they made that perfectly clear last season.

Give Riggs and Harris a chance. Harris was awesome in college and there's no reason to think he cannot be a decent back-up for at least a year.

I would not trade any picks. We need to add picks so we can trade up and have flexibility in the draft next year. Not having extra picks hampered us this year. If anything, I would look to see if we can get anything for expendable vets like Zgonina and Wade Smith. If we can get a 5th for Smith and a 7th for Zgonina, that would be excellent.

good one, it took me a minute
but we have DeSammy, DeTravis, and DeKay Jay
no thanks

1. Car will keep this guy, 2. we don't need a RB badly enough to give up picks for them.

I like Riggs he seemed to be a hard runner in college if he is over the injury.

Anyone is better than KJ
I'm not surprised a 'Cane fan would say this. Especially after he ran over most of their defense for a TD.
