Eric Shelton

I believe Shelton had a 80 yard run for a touchdown....he has plenty of speed...and I wouldn't be shocked to see his QB selected along with him.

QUICK STRENGTHS: size, strength, speed
QUICK WEAKNESSES: elusiveness, creativity
NFL COMPARISONS: A big, solid back who can also get outside similar to Stephen Davis.

Shelton was listed as the number one prep prospect in the nation by some recruiting services. He signed with Florida State out of high school, but he redshirted his first season and then decided to transfer to Louisville. He sat out one year, then came in and played two seasons for Louisville.

Shelton is a big, powerful back. He has excellent size and framework for the position. He is a tough straight ahead runner, he looks for contact and is a tough player for defenders to bring down in the open field. For a big man, Shelton has good speed. He can get around the corner and is capable of outrunning defenders in the open field. He has good, quick feet for a bigger guy and can pick and slide his way around the line. However, he doesn't have great elusiveness and is only an average cut back runner. He is more of a straight line runner and isn't a back who will create a lot of plays that aren't there. Even though he played in a spread out type offense, he also split time with two other backs. As a result, he is raw in pass protection, although he has the size and strength to be effective in this area. He must show more awareness in recognizing where extra rushers are coming from. He hasn't been used much as a receiver throughout his career. He has shown decent hands out of the backfield in limited opportunities, but this is one area where he will need to get more comfortable.

Shelton is the perfect pounder for teams looking to play more smashmouth football. He has impressive athleticism for his size and should end up being one of the league's best around the goal line. Shelton should be a 2nd Round selection.
