So recently Mangini has said that ex-Dolphin Rex Hadnot will replace G Eric Steinbach at LG in Cleveland meaning Steinback and his larger than a backup salary could be dumped if they dont trade him first...He is Tall and not as huge as we would like but i think he made a Pro- Bowl and is better suited than Joe Berger in my estimation to be our RG with Donald "ouch that hurts" Thomas out again with a terribly unfortunate injury...

I know Pete Kendall is still out there too but hes gotta be like 35 by now...
Anyone hear of any other RG possibilities or do you think we sill play with what we have?

joe berger will not be our right guard. he will be lucky to make the team

Not if we have to trade for him. With base salaries of $3.6 million for 2009. $5.75 million for 2010, $6.25 million in 2011, $6 million in 2012 and $6.25 million in 2013, I just don't see a trade for him happening.

me neither, but looking at those escalators, i definately see him getting cut.

Yeah im almost positive he's gonna get cut thats why i was saying no one is gonna keep a backup guard who will potentially make 20+ million over the next 4 years thats just crazy...with that said i think we should bring him in for a look as a stop gap for Thomas till he gets back cause there is no way Parcells signs him for that kind of money

He'd fit in nicely here, if he were to be cut.

They also might just be trying to light a fire under his butt thinking maybe he is pretty talented.

Can't see him getting cut for awhile though, unless he asks for it.

Maybe Dolphins fans should find his email and....

Steinbach at LG while Justin Smiley moves over to RG would be a consideration.

Big question though is why he has fallen so out of favor in Cleveland. When a guy is getting replaced by Rex Hadnot, it would be dumb to just automatically assume it is because the coaches in charge are just idiots.

beat me to it. Steinbach has been a LG ever since he entered the league. he's not the mauler we'd like at RG. a great technician and pass protector. perfect as LG, not a good fit for RG.

As the report said, Mangini wants to beef up the offensive line and the 6'2" 320 lb Hadnot fits that role better than the 6'6" 295 lb Steinbach. It also mentioned that the coaches are just experimenting at this point.

I'm holding out hope that our 09 starter, and future at RG is on the current roster !

Pretty excited to see what happens at that spot.
can't say we don't have depth....

1- Thomas
2- Ndukwe
3- Murphy
4- Alleman
5- Frye
6- Berger
7- Gardner
8- Quinn

Wow, hopefully Thomas can come back, if not Murphy better be ready this year.

I fail to see how you got "depth" from a list that I see as "crap shoot".

kind of agree. not one proven good nfl player in the bunch. im hopeful on murphy, thomas and gardner.

The #1 prospect on the roster for the Right Guard position is still Donald Thomas, without a doubt...but with this injury you have to be a lot less sure about him than we were a month ago.

After that, I'm interested in seeing how Mark Lewis, SirVincent Rogers and J.D. Quinn perform. I think Andrew Gardner is a tackle. He's 6'7" and 305 pounds. That's tackle build. Maybe left guard, but probably left tackle.

Mark Lewis played Right Guard his final year at Oregon and played it well. Only Max Unger graded higher than him. Russ Lande brought up a great point about SirVincent Rogers which is that a lot of teams expected him to be a high pick before he had some knee surgeries, and I certainly account no shame in getting overshadowed by Sebastien Vollmer. Rogers is 6'4" and 310, IMO that's a guard's build. He could be a candidate. Then there's J.D. Quinn who has experience at both spots (like Lewis) and could be tried at the position.

Quinn could be a real wildcard

Steinbach has good height at 6-6, but his weight really concerns me at 295. I think if he is cut Miami would defitnetly look at him depending on how Thomas is doing. Remember Thomas is expected by Training Camp. Steinbach could be a nice addition if cut. He would be a player that is hungry and trying to prove he can return to PB form.
