Here is my take on what this means:
  • In my opinion, this sounds like a courtesy meeting from Manning. I don't think the quarterback is seriously considering the Dolphins at this point. It's no secret the Dolphins want Manning badly, and Manning is a really nice guy, and probably doesn't want to hurt people's feelings in the process. He already shut down several teams, including the New York Jets and Washington Redskins, who called his representatives. Manning taking the full tour in Denver and Arizona, and not in Miami, should say all the Dolphins need to know.
  • This also doesn't help the league-wide perception that Miami has dysfunctional leadership. Miami's power pair of owner Stephen Ross and general manager Jeff Ireland do not have the best reputation around the league for various reasons. The most recent public handling this past year of former head coach Tony Sparano, particularly, drew ire around the league. Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher both turned down Ross and Ireland, and it appears Manning will be the third big name to do so in a year.
  • Finally, it's time for the Dolphins to resort to Plan B. The chances of Philbin, a rookie head coach, saying something magical to convince Manning to join Miami without even visiting the facilities are slim. The Dolphins appear all but out of the Manning sweepstakes. That means it's time for Miami to jump into the Flynn sweepstakes. Free agency starts in less than 24 hours. Miami must go back to the drawing board if it wants a new starting quarterback next season.

All this is is Walkers opinion. If he is interested he signs if not we move on.

I agree and for that reason Miami should say kiss my ass, we dont need your stinking courtesy visit you *****. The only reason you really want to go to Denver is to avoid real competition in this divison.

Why would Manning bother with a "courtesy meeting"? Why would Manning owe the Dolphins anything? He already told KC, Seattle and the Skins to shove it, so why would he be afraid to do the same with Miami if he wasn't genuinely interested?

I agree with you 100%

I thought this at first too, but, I don't think Peyton does anything just for the hell of it. He doesn't have time to just do meetings to appease a team or fanbase. If he really didn't want to be a Dolphin, no way he gives us a meeting. I still think our chances are slim, but, in the words of Lloyd Christmas

Exactly

For one, it would quell the question he'd get pelted with anytime he visited his home in South Florida: "How come you wouldn't even meet with the Dolphins when they would have loved to have you as their QB, and payed you well on top of it?"

Meet with them quickly, be polite, and move on.

Huh, another thread with pure speculation and no facts. Shocking.

Manning doesn't operate like that! Besides he has all the leverage he needs between AZ and Den

No way a courtesy meeting.... Makes no sense

He promised the Dolphins a chance to make a sales pitch before this all began. He's a man of his word, but it's just a courtesy at this point.

He's probably just flying home after a week on the west coast. He can come here and listen to their sales pitch and come out looking like a good guy. It's just all speculation, but at this point i would be very surprised if Jeff Ireland found his inner Pat Riley and convinced Peyton to take his talents to Davie.

lol Manning is a really nice guy, so he wouldn't say no to a meeting?

Damn, I wonder if he was a nice guy when he told the Skins and Chiefs to go fly a kite?

*sigh*
