ESPN-AFC East chat-Tim Graham (3pm today)

Dolphins Quotes (questions in italics):
Hey Tim, I've been hearing a little bit about Anthony Armstrong lately. Does he have any real chance to make the Phins' team?
Tim Graham
He has a shot. He has terrific speed, and Tony Sparano noted Armstrong always seems to catch the coaching staff's attention in practice. But I have seen him drop a lot of passes.
Hey Tim, I've heard nothing very positive about Pat White. Is he struggling that bad or is it the haters?
I've seen White several times and have not been impressed. His passes have been all over the place.
Sean Smith is a boss, but will everyone else view Vontae as a bust since Will Allen and Smith will be the probable starting cb's? I think his tackling would be excellent as a nickel in run support. Whatcha think?
I'm not sure where you're getting your info that Smith will be the starter. It's only June. All players, but especially cornerbacks, prove themselves at training camp and in preseason games. That's where they earn a coach's trust. On the last day of minicamp, Davis was getting first-team reps. So let's wait a while to see how that battle shakes out.
tim, over or under 12 sacks for cameron wake?
Way under. He'll start off as a situational player and will need to jockey with Jason Taylor and Matt Roth for playing time.
Any info on how Camarillo is doing off is injury? And do you think he can be just as good as last year?
Greg Camarillo's knee is coming along. He looks OK and says he's doing well.
With all of the good press on Ronnie Brown, do you think they can keep Ricky busy enough that he stays focused and "out of trouble"?
Ricky is fine. He's enjoying his low profile and seems to be handling life quite well these days.
cameron wake will be an absolute beast. im from canada i watch the cfl regularly and im telling you rite now im more scared of him then joey porter. if he can't get a starters role. somethings wrong with their coaches
And Dave Dickenson will edge out Peyton Manning for MVP.
Hey Tim - What kind of quarterback do you expect Henne to be? One that can win games on his own or a game manager type?
Game manager is a roundabout way of saying he wins with his head and not his skills. The Dolphins see him as complete quarterback with an arm and intelligence. Having Chad Pennington as Henne's mentor for a couple years could prove more valuable for the Dolphins in the long run than having Pennington at quarterback.
Timothy, Did you see in Ginn what Sparano sees in Ginn lately? That is confidence, crisper route running, DOMINANCE??
Dominance? In all caps, no less? I haven't heard Sparano say anything in the neighborhood of that.
I've heard nothing but great news about Patrick Turner supposively human vacuum cleaner. But does he have the speed to be a starter?
Turner does have sensational hands. I couldn't stop watching him at rookie camp. Speed and separation will be an issue, but he should be on the field on obvious passing downs and in the red zone.
Now that we've got Taylor back along with the addition of Wake I see the Phins having one of the best pass rush in the league.
They sure do have a lot of talent lined up there.
With the talent at wideout in the division do you think the Dolphins lack what it takes to defend against them or will they be fine with a good pass rush and the additions in secondary they have now
I don't see a major hole at cornerback. They still have Will Allen on the left, and it wasn't like right corner Andre Goodman was a worldbeater last year. Eric Green isn't the answer, but I don't think it's time to panic. And remember, the Jets don't have much to worry about at receiver ... right now.
Will Pat White be listed as a WR with the 3rd qb rule
The last time I spoke with Tony Sparano about it, he said White would be the second quarterback and Henne the third for gameday purposes.
Hey tim do you see any free agents comin into miami to mentor the young WR core we got? Someone like say..Marvin Harrison??
I think the Dolphins are happy with their receivers and go into the season with what they have.
Hi Tim, who do you think will start at RG for the Dolphins?
If he can stay healthy, Donald Thomas.
I feel the pass rush will have a lot to do with our success this year with the Dolphins but I also believe we need to be more physical on o line. I hear Grove is exactly that type of guy whats your take?
I will say the Dolphins think Grove is a big upgrade over Satele. I spoke to Jake Long about it last week, and he think they're much better equipped to establish the run. That's not just because of Grove, but also the new offensive line coach.
Outrageously tougher. i think the league was like we have to give Miami the hardest schedule. We cant allow them to make it to the Superbowl.
Either that, or the schedule cycles were laid out years ago. But you're probably right, Chris. Gotta be a conspiracy.
Ronnie will prove himself this year.
Brown has proven himself already. Nobody is saying he's a bum. But if I'm putting a team together from a pool of AFC East players, I'm taking Lynch. Based purely on football, that is.
What team did the Phins new O line coach on last year?
Giants.
Hi there Tim! Have you seen JTaylor taking snaps on his "new" position? Does he look any good or even comfortable there?
I wrote about that last week. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-8-194/After-years-of-being-right--Taylor-sees-what-s-left.html
How would you rank the rbs in the afc east?
Lynch, Brown, Jones, Washington, Maroney (if healthy)
How would you rank the QB's in the AFC East?
Brady, Pennington, Edwards, Sanchez, Clemens
Does Miami keep Pennington after this season, or stock up on picks in next years draft?
Pennington is entering the final year of his contract. Unless he carries them to the payoffs, I think this will be his last year with Miami. Of course, he could agree to return as the backup, but Henne looks like the 2010 starter.
Does Ronnie Brown rush for 1500 this year?
I doubt it. He has had durability issues, and the Dolphins have to find carries for Ricky Williams. Guys who run for 1,500 are workhorses. Brown doesn't fit that description.
How have the Dolphins fans in general embraced the new ownership and the change of name for the stadium to Landshark (to me its always Joe Robbie)
They're pretty apathetic. Huizenga was a beloved owner, but Ross hasn't overseen any significant on-field success/failure yet. As for the name to the stadium, I think most of the fans who do care about such things were embarrassed they couldn't find a sponsor for years.
Does Pat White rush for 500 and pass for 500 in his rookie season?
No and no.
Tim, most interesting player during these OTAs down in Miami?
Because there were no pads, the player we were able to learn most about was Pat White. But the player I'm most interested in learning about his Cameron Wake. We'll have to wait for training camp.
When Joey Porter said that the road to the afc east goes through Miami even though the favorite is New England, does it look like Miami can still be a challenge even if they have the toughest schedule in nfl?
For sure. The Patriots schedule is only a smidgeon easier. They have only two unique opponents.
Any undrafted free agents you see with a shot at making the team? Dolphins..
It's hard to evaluate at minicamp, especially interior linemen. But I asked Sparano a few weeks ago how many undrafted players need to make the team, and he said about two.
With the upgraded secondary and re-adition of JT is Miami's defense the best in the East?
I'd like to see the Jets for a couple games first.
Does Matt Roth beat out JT for the starting spot on the left side?
I see Roth playing on running downs.
Tim, pre-training camp AFC East rankings?
Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Bills.
How do you see the playoffs seeding out in the AFC? Division champs and Wildcard teams
I predict two teams coming out of the AFC North and AFC South. That means only one AFC East team making the playoffs.

I find Graham is not biased against the Dolphins and a pretty realistic observer.

Christoph (Orlando)

That was my question.. The reason i think Smith will be the starter, is because of his size, if there is a WR over 6'3, i want Smith on him, even though i love Vontae.

I dont think Vontae will bust, I just think all of you guys will label him as one when Sean Smith becomes the better CB.

"Pennington is entering the final year of his contract. Unless he carries them to the payoffs, I think this will be his last year with Miami. Of course, he could agree to return as the backup, but Henne looks like the 2010 starter."

I like the sound of Henne being the starter next year and still having CP backing him up if an injury and a person to sit down and watch video with. it would be nice if CP agrees with staying and helping out Henne. It would show a lot of respect cp has for the dolphins and alot on his character.

Agreed with most of his comments. I will say, though, that - when healthy - R. Brown's a much more dynamic back than Lynch. I think Brown looked about as good last season coming off his injury.

I always enjoy reading these.
Seeing as how Lynch is only 23 I understand his thinking.
If the bills knew what they were doing he would get 20+ carried per game

it sounds to me like he thinks our wr is ok but not at the level of the pats. We better hope that Boldin goes to a nfc team and not the jets or bills man that would suck if the jets aquire Boldin.

the only part that concerns me is Pat White . It is just my opinion but i hope Henne gets to start soon because these noodle arm qbs are ok but we need a strong arm qb to get us past the 1st rd of the playoffs.

Don't give up on Chad P just let, but i will agree Pat white to me is flying a big red flag :alert:. My first thought of PW was great then ten seconds later i did not know what it was, but it got me worrying on how PW will do and hearing what happen in ota's does not make fillings better. Regardless Chad Henne will start next season i think and i hope Chad p stays i teaches him how to be accurate and be a good backup. Then out of the blue Dan Marino comes out of nowhere and come in and helps on Chad H arm. Can you just take a second the imagined if Chad h could take the best of both them perfectly. That would be heaven. :rev:

I had Lynch on my fantasy team last year so I paid attention to him a lot and he seemed to be outplayed by Fred Jackson often.

I dont care what anyone says right now. PW will be just fine. He is a rookie who will have alot thrown at him. They will only design a few plays per game for him. Thats it.

Dont know why people have such huge expectations other than we should expect more big plays from the WC scoring more points from it.

Agreed same here, I had him thinking big things for him. He catches the ball out of the backfield well though also. One thing though is people get this idea that he's some huge ugly monster of a man with dreads that runs so hard he just bulldozes everything in his path. Not true, and to say Ronnie is not a workhorse is crazy, just because he smiles? I mean what gives you any idea that hes not a work horse? Lynch is pretty good but I think Ronnie brings more to the table.

Ronnie has the most talent out of all the RB's in the AFC East. Hell arguably the most talented RB in the AFC period. His problem has always been durability . . . plain and simple. Lynch is very good, doesn't have Ronnie's hands or blocking ability . . . but as a runner, he is better. I can understand taking Lynch over Brown . . . being that Lynch is about 5 years younger.

lol, I hope that question, or statement rather wasn't from a FH'er, what a knob.
