I know some people are getting worked up because the so-called "experts" have not predicted much from our Fins in 2009, even after winning the AFC East in 2008. We all have to remember that the game is played on the field and not determined by these "experts" To illustrate, I have found ESPN's "expert" predictions for the 2008 season:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/news/story?id=3552727

Here's what we know:

3 of the 8 division winners (Mia, Atl, Ten) were not picked by anyone to win their division.
4 of the overwhelming picks to win their divisions (NE, Dal, Sea, NO) didn't even make the playoffs.
Not one "expert" correctly picked the Super Bowl champion or even the Super Bowl participants. In fact, San Diego was the only one of the predicted Super Bow participants to even make the playoffs and they only got in because of Denver's historic choke.

The point I am trying to make is that these predictions are absolutely worthless. The predictions in the link were made on August 27, 2008 after pre-season games had been played and most of training camp had been completed. I could have done just as well as these guys by throwing darts at a dartboard or picking teams from a hat. And if you think I'm wrong, try it for yourself and see what you come up with.

Let's not get too caught up in these predictions… That's why they play the games. Go Fins!!!!

What the Phins did last year was rare so it would make sense that none of the "experts" would think they'd go far. It would be the equivalent of saying the Lions will win their division this year and make the playoffs. It sounds retarded right? But it is still possible.

I would've certainly put NE at the top of the East again. C'mon, they were a few minutes away from not losing all year. It wasn't unreasonable.

The problem is that they STILL don't give respect to the fins. I was watching the analysts on the NFL NETWORK talking about the AFC East. They spoke about Tom Brady, and how he would do now that he's back from his injury. Also they did a short segment on WHO is the one team that has a chance at beating the Patriots for the division title next year. Both Jamie Dukes and the other big white dude(his name escapes me) agreed it was the JETS. THE FRIKKEN JETS once again, not even a thought or hint at the dolphins. Hello? Rookie QB who hasn't played a down in the NFL?

If the talent is in place, especially at the right spots.... you can't ignore any team.
examples: 09 Chiefs, Rams, Bills, Texans etc.

Let them forget about the Dolphins. Hopefully the coaches just use it as motivation for the players. That can be really useful. The important thing is that the team has learned from Tony Sparano what things they can do that lose games and what things they can do that win games, and if they know that and they also play with a chip on their shoulders...that can be a good thing.

Say Dukes and the other guy chose the Phins, what does it really matter to you?

the biggest think on there to prove that experts don't have any more "NFL Instinct" then the rest of is that one expert picked Vernon Gholston as DPOY.

Consider that every year of the 8 playoff teams about 6 are new.So this happens like clock work even with pats and colts dominance in making the playoff.

So the question rather easy .

Always funny to take a look back. To be fair most of the teams predicted looked unstoppable and most of these guys are going to make easy picks. NO BODY would have expected us and Atl to even make the playoffs let alone us winning the division.

It ticks me off that we still get no respect within the NFL scheme of things. Now will I go on a rampage and do a driveby kill the NFL network headquarters for it? Not really.

Jaime Dukes is gay as hell. He refuses to give Sporano or the Dolphins any credit for winning the division.

Winning cures all, we can play the no respect card all day long but what is the only reason ESPN is on the air? To make money from advertisers, how do they do that? Get the highest ratings as possible by showing what the people want to see. I dont agree with it but to be honest we have been awful the last few years (last year excluded obviously) and we finally got better last year. If we keep with our winning ways we will get the respect we deserve and people will want to watch us on ESPN.

I thought Carolina won the South and Atlanta was a wild card.

They are giving respect to Rex Ryan and to Tom Brady. It has nothing to do with respect for the Dolphins. You have to earn respect. Getting abused by the Ravens did not earn respect. Did the Dolphins over the last five years play so dominantly that they were feared by other teams? NO!!! Has Tom Brady been so dominant that teams feared him? YES!!! It really is that simple.
