ESPN fired Trev Alberts on Sunday after the college football analyst failed to show up for work at ESPN's studios in Bristol, Conn., SI.com reported Tuesday night.

"He phoned and said that he wasn't going to show up," Mark Shapiro, ESPN's vice president of programming and production, told SI.com. "When he didn't, he was in breach of his contract and we terminated him."

should've been fired years ago

Can't say I'll miss him. Although I'm sure CBS or someone else will pick him up.

Man, just for calling out one day? Has to be way more to it than that.

Pretty easy...

He's arrogant. He is totally partisan towards Nebraska. He goes by "Trev". He has no idea what he's talking about most of the time. He yells and whines and pontificates and throws his arms up waaaaaaay too much on the air. And he brings quality sportscasters like Mark May down.

And I'm fairly confident they're not upset he's gone.

From Jim Sarni's Broadcast Sports column in the Sun-Sentinel

"Alberts canned

ESPN college football analyst Trev Alberts didn't like "playing second fiddle" and now he's out of the orchestra all together. ESPN fired Alberts on Sunday after he failed to show up for work.

Alberts, a former All-American defensive end at Nebraska who played for the Colts, was starting his fourth season as part of the College Football Scoreboard and College Football Gameday shows, working with host Rece Davis and analyst Mark May.

The GameDay lead team of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit is clearly ESPN's star attraction, and Alberts may have been frustrated

"The GameDay guys have earned that," Alberts told SI.com. "Mark, Rece and I, we had searched for something we could call ours. All we wanted was something we could take ownership of. We felt like the midnight wrap-up show was ours, but as the season began I could see that we'd be more of a support crew for [Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit]. ..... It's just a matter of not wanting to be marginalized."

Desmond Howard and Lou Holtz will fill in for Alberts this week."

desmond howard? perfect. get a guy who was highly touted in college and sucked in the NFL. he fits trev alberts' spot perfectly!

@how the article mentions "He was in breach of his contract so we terminated him" -- I can imagine Arnold Schwarzaneggar saying that.

I'm gonna love listen to Lou Holtz ramble lol the guys lisp (if you can call it that) makes me laugh. Demond Howard sucked so far but he's been thrust into a big postion relatively quickly so I will give him time to settle in before I truly judge him. I'm glad they got rid of Alberts. I can't stand analysts that bully people who disagree with them. ESPN just needs to get rid of Salisbury and then I'll really be happy!

I always hated Trev....he is a ****y arrogant yuppie wuss who always tried to one-up May or Fowler and always thought he knew everything. Glad they got rid of him.
