Saints trying to seal Brees deal
<Mar. 12> The Miami Herald reports that the Saints are offering about $3 million more in guaranteed money than the Dolphins, and the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the Saints have made it known they will out-bid anyone for Brees' services.
Brees flew to New Orleans on Saturday with Saints coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis, who picked up the former Chargers quarterback in Birmingham, Ala. Earlier Saturday, Dolphins coach Nick Saban and GM Randy Mueller visited with Brees in Birmingham, hoping to convince him to pay Miami a visit before agreeing to a deal with the Saints.

Brees appears to be done negotiating with the Chargers, who have been offering a contract loaded with incentives in the first year because of his offseason shoulder surgery. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the sides remain about $6 million apart in guaranteed money.

With the Vikings reportedly close to trading Daunte Culpepper, Minnesota is also considered a possible destination for Brees.

Hey I'm sure Marino would pay 3 million dollars for a better chance at a Superbowl!

thanks
I'm not sod on Brees I think that injury is a problem, I just can't believe the Chargers would be so stupid.

I do. Why do you think Manning told them to take a hike?

The Saints sound desperate and I don't see why. They are not a very good football team. They would be better off filling other needs in free agency and then landing a franchise QB in the draft. The Saints feel if they land Brees then they can trade out of the number 2 spot in the draft and get more players.
If too many of the teams in the top half of the draft gobble up all these veteran QB's then Leinart, Young and Cutler will slip. If that is the case then why would any team give up much to move into one of the top 5 spots in the draft? They would essentially make this draft very much like last years' draft. where the best value will be in the middle picks.

Man people need to stop biting people's heads off around here. Let's all take a chill pill and relax.

hey M14 did you see Brees against the Fins he did not carry the team.
Think about the talent he had around him and the results he generated.
I take the guy from the vikings over Brees anytyme Ramsey would be fine too.

agree people have ben snappy the past few days. :D Chill everyone

Just because they offer the money doesn't mean he signs with the saints. I took a pay cut to be in a less stressful job. Maybe Miamis would be a less stressful place to play.

If its all about the bucks he can just get killed in NO and we move on.

Stupid?

We have a first round pick waitng in the wings that our GM wants to get on the field. It isnt like our other option is Gus Frerotte. We believe Rivers has more upside than Brees who comes up small against the better teams. Now he has a damaged shoulder that may or may not be the same.

Stupid would be to sign him to a big guaranteed contract and he wont be able to play this year and his arm that isnt all that strong to begin with, wont get back to where it was.

If you guys get him......thats great. He is a good guy and a tough competitor and a good leader, but he may not be be the same.

So you are going to take one game you saw and base your entire opinion on that one contest? The guy has made back to back pro bowls. He single handedly beat the undefeated Colts. People seem to forget that not only did Daunte blow out his knee, but he also had a 1:2 TD/Interception ratio (6 TDs 12 INTs) when he did get hurt. Thats not exactly performing.

it was not brees fault that they lost to us, the man had 2 td passes and a td run. it was the chargers offensive playcalling and pass defense and the fact we were playing awesome that lost the chargers the game.

thank god i dont subscribe to ESPNinsider because its a big waist of friggin money
