Evan Mathis is 32 but a Great OG who had a Great year. To give an idea, he was almost 4 times better on the run than Shelly but for all 16 games, and was good in pass protect as well. It was reported that the Eagles wanted a 3rd rounder for him but, we and everyone passed. So, we got Turner in place of him.

Anyone care to re-visit that trade for a next year's pick?

Nope, I'm glad we passed. I don't want to give up a 3rd rounder for a guard who's on the wrong side of 30. If we need to, there are other guards available who have yet to be signed.

He wanted a trade because he wants a raise from his already nice sized contract. He's a vg player..but not sure I'm investing 6+mil per year on him and a draft pick

Between his age and contract I'd stay away.

I wanted to do it in the draft and would love to do it now. I would feel a lot better about a 4th, but I wouldn't walk away from the table for a 3rd. What I like better however is that the eagles lost Jackson in the off season and need some WRs. That is one thing we have too many of. With rumors swirling around Mathews being in the coaches doghouse, send them Mathews, Egnew, and or Daniel Thomas if they want him, plus a 6th rd pick. I would do that trade in a milli-second.

I just don't want to go into the upcoming season with another O Line filled with glaring holes. We have a lot of maybe s at OG and I can see one of them working out, but the odds of finding TWO solid starters seems a bit optimistic to me. We HAVE to bring in another OG before camp starts or Hickey will be as bad as Ireland in my mind. You just can't ignore glaring holes and think they will go away.

IDK, our 3rd round picks like Jerry and Dallas did not look all that good but, hope springs eternal that Turner will make up for that in place of an All Pro OG. I have to give it serious consideration. A left sid of Albert, Mathis, and Pouncey is about as good as it gets but, for this year, and not a few years down the line, maybe.

Whether you trade for him or get someone else there is no question someone else has to be brought in. That is unless you want to look back at last year as the "good ol days" of OL play.

The Eagles will not get bang-for-buck on this trade.

Mathis is a top 5 Guard in the NFL. But his age and new contract requests cancel everything out. Only a very needy team that is Super Bowl ready NOW would be wise to trade for him.

Eagles will likely be asking for a 3rd rounder. Teams won't want to give up more than say a 5th because it comes with age and a new fat contract attached to it.

Is he worth a 3rd? Yes

Is he worth a 3rd to the Dolphins? No

From what I've read, Mathis is looking for around $6M a year, which is more than Asamoah, Schwartz, and Saffold got. Is he worth more? No Question. We overpaid for Wallace, Alber, and Finnegent as if we were close to conteding. Why not pay an All Pro OG a half mil more than Finnegen. He was actually Great last year. JMO but, we will not do it.

No thanks. But thanks for starting a thread about this.
