What player will make the roster that most of us are skeptical about? This question is different than "what player do we want to make the roster". My initial impression is that Mario Edwards, cb, is the player that will make the roster (don't like it). A very close second to that would be Donald Lee. I for some reason think he may make the team.

Input appreciated.

I think Donald Lee....has that chance because of his obvious run blocking skills. God he drops a ton of balls though

agreed

I'm really rooting for Donald Lee. I just watched a tape of the Jaguar game and his commitment to dirtywork blocking is remarkable. Plus he's very skilled at all variety of blocks, not merely straight ahead blocking or seal blocking. Frankly, the posters who rip him incessantly have no clue about the non-glamorous aspects of the TE position and probably have never actually watched Lee block play after play.

The wild card is our new staff and scheme. If Linehan were the head coach I'm confident he would oust Lee in favor of a pantyhose TE. Saban prefers more muscle and may have enough down the road foresight to keep Donald Lee.

In the old days, circa '70s, it would be simple to put 20-30 pounds on Lee and make him a tackle. The Steelers did that with a blocking force TE named Larry Brown who had far less receiving skills than Donald Lee and it turned out great for them. But these days the size gap is too enormous and you can't pretend a smaller framed guy can handle the big and fast DEs. We found that out with Wade Smith.

Seth I thought for sure he was outa here. After watching a couple of preseason games, Seth is benefiting greatly from HH. I'm wondering if he will be the 1 team center.

donald lee is a great blocker.. i also want mario edwards to make the team.

For some reason I think Newsome makes the team

The only thing with Mario Edwards is that he really has not done anything since coming to the NFL. He referred to himself as the next Deion Sanders, well needless to say I think we all know what happened to that pipedream. I think we should release Edwards and pick up someone else. Edwards just doesn't have the goods.

As for Donald Lee, I have mixed feelings about him. He is a good blocking TE, but he drops way too many passes and commits way to many penalties. Penalties kill drives and with the QB situation the way it is, we simply can't afford that. Ever possession matters this season and it has not even started yet.

You really think there will be cornerbacks better than Mario Edwards released at this point? I doubt it.

As someone else said, as thin as we are right now, he will probably make the team this year.

I am just giving my opinion on Edwards. Honestly I'd rather see Bobby Taylor in here with a one year contract until we can see who will be out there perhaps next season. Furthermore, you never know, some things can happen and a quality corner could end up out there on the waivers. The NFL is upredictable sometimes and you should know that as I see you are a well seasoned Dolphin fan. If we do release Edwards I hope that we would pick up someone to help the depth at the CB position. I do not think that we should cannibalize our defense by any means.

I have not been impressed with Edwards at all....

I would say I actually would go with Eiland and Richard before I went with Edwards. I disagree with the assumption there will not be better corners available. I think some teams are deeper than others at that position and there very well could be younger or better corners available at cut time.
