To all my fellow Finz fans,

I've been thinking about this a little bit over the past day. I have a question for everyone after seeing some of the threads and posts after yesterdays defeat. To me it's obvious, the QB that will lead this team to a playoff berth in the future is NOT on this roster currently. Personally, I'm still ok with Gus starting for now, assuming he does not keep getting worse throughout the season. But regardless, I'd like to see someone not on this roster as the starting QB in the future here.

What does everyone else think? If you could choose a player (meaning someone who can be signed, such as a free agent or drafted, not someone like Peyton Manning or Dan the Man who could not possibly play for this team in the future)......who would you like to see behind center as early as next year?

Your answer can be someone on this roster if you think that is the best direction to go. If possible, I'd be curious as to why you choose the player you do....

I would like to see Philip Rivers. Just my opinion, but I think he has the skills to be a very good QB in the NFL. He's had plenty of time to sit and watch in San Diego and despite him not having much playing time, I'd like to see him here next year. All depends on whether SD decides to trade him or let Brees go.

So what do you think???

I'm going to do what the Dolphin's are going to do in the next draft....take the best Tackle....and keep Gus. O'what fun!!!

I say we draft a stud LT in the first round and then hope and pray Vince Young falls to the second round.

I don't see how we can draft a LT in round 1 with holes at QB, CB and RT.

I make a trade for either David Gerrard or Phillip Rivers. I draft a LT in the first round..and a QB to develop in the later rounds. There are some interesting choices, depending on who comes put early.

Both Gerrard and Rivers can play now, and wont take as much time to develop. They both have the same upside as Leinart IMO.

If I had my choice, Id go with Rivers.

Priority One!!

Is QB!!! It is much easier to land a standout Tackle than it is QB. Tackles in 06 draft is deep. Go for River Phillips with a trade and pick a CB or T in rounds 2 and 3. After yesterday...crap...offer Gruden a 3rd and 4th for Simms and pick a T with the first. Simms made our defense look bad yesterday. Yes we have needs on the OL and DB, but we come out of the 06 draft or free agency without a STARTING QB...we have accomplished NOTHING! :yell:

I'm not trying to start a fight here, but if you trade for Phillips of Gerrard you wouldn't have a first rounder. Neither of those players will go for less than that. Also, if you get one of those guys it wouldn't be smart, IMO, to draft another young QB. I'd say do you're homework, let you scouts come up with some solid draft options for the o-line and draft rounds 2-5 best available o-linemen. Check out the free agent market and sign the two best O-Linemen available but DO NOT OVERPAY FOR MARGINAL TALENT.

Knowing SD they will want a #1, cash and another player (possibly a young defensive talent) for Rivers. Make the trade and sign another vet player to replace the younster traded away for Rivers. It's complicated and everything will have to be worked tightly to stay under the Cap. Unless, of course, the Cap gets bumped to 100M as has been talked about.

QB: Rivers or Brees. if its rivers, have him compete for the job with gus in camp. (but we all know rivers will win.

draft a Cb with the 1st round draft pick.

you need ~2 new O-Lineman. these should be FAs. not probowlers, but solid players.

thats what i would do in this comming offseason.

No offense...but why done you go play on your own site and leave us Fin fans to grieve in peace.

Jeff George. Just kidding, but think about that for just a moment. He would complete those deep balls with ease. I think we'd be 3-2 or maybe 4-1. I don't want him, but I think that's a valid arguement. Interesting, huh?

I've been saying for years that our priority should be to draft a QB. I see Rivers as being the same thing as drafting one early (maybe better). I would trade a first for him happily. I would also consider Leinart if we end up with a really high 1st.

I 2nd that opinion!!!:D

We need a young QB to groom. No more older guys. Offensive Line is a need too, as is the secondary.

Depending on who's available, I'd go with a QB first.
Then I'd go for OL in Free Agency
Cornerback next year should be better with Daniels and Poole. But I'd like to get a few more guys back there.

Eventually we'll need more younger LBs

And try and find a WR who's a gamebreaker, or a great #2-3

Actually Rivers doesn't have the arm to play in our system....our best hope is that Young and or Quinn come out early.
