I am a West Virginia fan and have followed Pat's progression very closely over the past four years. I've been surprised and a little discouraged about some of the comments I've read on this board. Some of the stuff I've read on here made me want to :hsmash: ... Anyway, I just wanted to chime in with my two cents...
First and foremost, Pat White is a quality human being. He is a genuinely nice, humble guy off the field. He especially loves children and has done a lot of charity work in WV. I think a lot of it has to do with his great family upbringing in Alabama.
The biggest thing that jumps out to me is his humility. His list of accomplishments is a mile long, but if ask him about his is personal achievements he will brush it off and talk about how everything is a team effort. Anyway, you don't have to worry about character being an issue with him.
On the field, he is a winner. He is a leader. He has the “it” factor. I will be shocked if he isn’t a star in the NFL.
Forget his measurables. I don’t care if he ran a 4.55. He has “football speed”. You don’t see him get caught from behind very often.
Pat loves proving people wrong. They said he couldn’t play QB in college. He was recruited by everyone but to play DB or WR. WVU saw that “it” factor and thought he could play QB, and it paid off. Miami sees that “it” factor too.
I always felt that he had an underrated arm, and I was happy to see him finally prove it this season and at the combine. Other than his completion percentage, his throwing numbers never really jumped out at you, but I think a lot of it had to do with not having a whole lot to work with at WR. He has OK arm strength but very good decision-making and great accuracy. He is one of the best I’ve seen at throwing the deep ball.
The down side… Can he play WR? Return kicks? I don’t know. He played a handful of snaps at WR last season but was only used as a decoy. I wouldn’t put anything past him though. He has proving people wrong for years.
He has underrated toughness and is not afraid to take a hit, which at times can be a bad thing due to his size. The new coaching staff really had to work with him to start avoiding hits, and he did a much better job of that his Sr. year.
Anyway, I could go on and on but I think you get the point. One more thing… Pat is beloved in West Virginia, so the Dolphins just became one of the most popular teams in our state. Don’t be surprised if this board gets flooded with WVU fans. I’ll apologize in advance… I cringe when I read some stuff written by our fans, God love ‘em. We have a passionate fanbase to say the least.
