Former Miami player Lamar Thomas lost his TV analyst job Monday over comments he made during a sideline-clearing brawl involving the Hurricanes and Florida International.

Comcast Sports SouthEast, a regional cable network that hired Thomas before the season, also decided to edit out his comments before the game is replayed later this week.

“We were disappointed in the incident that happened on the field and regret the way it was handled in the broadcast booth,†CSS general manager Mark Fuhrman said. “We do not support or condone the inappropriate comments made by color analyst Lamar Thomas and have taken the necessary steps to prevent a similar situation from ever occurring again.â€Â

CSS, which is available in 5.5 million homes, will replay the game twice Wednesday.

Thomas made his comments as dozens of Miami and FIU players stormed the Orange Bowl field and fought during the third quarter of their teams’ game Saturday night, an incident that led to the suspension of at least 31 players and forced officials from both schools to publicly apologize for the melee.

“Now, that’s what I’m talking about,†Thomas said as the brawl raged out of control. “You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don’t come into the OB playing that stuff. You’re across the ocean over there. You’re across the city. You can’t come over to our place talking noise like that. You’ll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing.â€Â

I'll always remember Lamar Thomas for the 2 TD game he had against the Broncos on Monday night Football in 1998 in a December game we had to have. Denver only had 1 loss at the time too. What a game that was.

It was 3 TD's, and yes that was a great game.

I couldn't believe some of the crap he was saying during that brawl. He should know better. :nono:

dammit I knew it was 3 too, my bad.

If the U of Miami had any guts they would ban Lamar from the sidelines forever as well.

The last thing they need is this clown walking the sideline during games with other ex-alums. Just ban him from the Orange Bowl and all football functions at the U of Miami. What he said is beyond bad taste!

Miami should ban him from all future football functions. That will send a message. The RIGHT message!!

Saying this type of behavior and the alumns/people who endorse it will not be a part of or around our program!! Want to change the image of the school, want to show the NCAA you are taking steps to correct these little problems....start by picking off an easy target with Lamar Thomas. Trust me it would gain a lot of points with the NCAA!!!!

denver had their first loss the week before and once they lost they had nothing to play for that reg season as they had homefield wrapped up.

I remember Lamar thomas for the '92(Jan '93) nat'l Title Game at the Sugar Bowl when he caught an apparent TD pass only to get caught from behind and stripped by George Teague of Alabama.

Anyway, Thomas is obviously an idiot and deserved to be fired. Miami's reputation is taking huige hits again lately and it only makes them look worse when an alum working for them says the idiotic things he said.

I generally find you harsh on the subject of the U..but I have to agree with you here...I was SOOO embarrassed at McGahee's gambling comments on the sideline... SOME of these punks never grow up. I an GLAD Lamar got fired, and I think you are correct...no more sideline for him. I am greatly pleased that FIU did the RIGHT thing and dismissed players and INCREASED penalties...WE should have done the same thing...sent a "real" message about sportsmanship and adult conduct. These kids (gifted college athletes) have never been held responsible for their personal conduct because of what their talent brings the teams... we are NOT teaching proper life lessons by letting reprehensible, illegal conduct go unpunished. If "I" was the Dade County DA, I would be filing assault charges against every single player who used a weapon or stomped on a down player...every one. WHY is assault with a weapon OK within the confines of the football field...why is that place exempt from criminal actions? If you or I had whacked someone in the head with a helmet, we would be looking at YEARS of incarceration.

I was at that game. You assumption that Denver didn't put their best team or a real effort out there doesn't ring true. Elway and co. all played, and Rominowski (sp?) was his usualy lunatic self, and in the face of everyone on that defense. Miami played inspired. Obviously, things would have been different if Denver was undefeated instead of losing to the Giants, but don't try to say Denver was really playing. I was there. They were still intense.

I am not saying they didn't try to win that night but all they had to play for was an undefeated season and that was lost the week before. We saw in the playoffs what they did to you when they really wanted it.

We also saw a playoff game in Denver, and under JJ. His postseason results for Miami were embarrassing, in the least.

Was it JJ or was it Miami? JJ had a little success in dallas in postseason while Miami was getting beaten up in postseason under Shula and after JJ left Miami was still getting beaten up in posteason.

Miami was JJ's team. I don't even get the question if it was merely Miami. JJ changed the roster significantly. They did struggle in the post season under Shula at the end, but nothing like the collapses that were experienced under JJ.
