Longevity of career and being able to avoid injury are very positive qualities in any player. If someone is going to say "[Player] doesn't deserve that career record because he played [number of games/years] longer than [other player]", it's nonsensical.
Do we just shove Terrell Davis into the top ten or so in career rushing yardage because he would 'probably' have managed it if he had played as long as Emmitt Smith?
People can't gain credit for what they didn't do. Favre has statistically passed (accidental awful pun) Marino in many categories (including, by some margin, interceptions) because he chose to continue to play, hasn't missed a start, teams want him to play for them and he still manages to be productive. Marino would 'probably' have extended his records beyond the level Favre is now at had he played the same length of time but he didn't play those extra games and can't get any credit for them whatsoever.
It's fair enough to say someone was a better player than another during the years he played but career statistics have to take in the whole playing career regardless of longevity.
