As we all know, Surtain has had problems with his knees dating back to the Colts game last year and the problem peaking when he had practiced for the Pro Bowl and now in Training Camp.. I went ahead and read the Sun-Sentinel report and they said the problem with his knees is something called a "Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) Tear".. It gave a vague explanation so I went ahead and looked it up on yahoo and this is a site that I found..

Posterior Cruciate Ligament Tear

I'm not trying to scare anyone but just wanted to give everyone a heads up on what this was and what I found.. If anyone else finds a better site.. Post it here..
This site says it takes several months to fully heal from this injury. Surtain did have a surgery after the season ended and now it's acting up again.. Makes no sense to me but we'll just see what happens again

I think this surgery was to clean out loose particles, not repair anything structural. I don't understand the rationale behind waiting until this late date to do the surgery, it sounds like he should have had it cleaned out earlier after missing minicamps. Anyway, he went to the Pro Bowl last year after having surgery during the season, hopefully his recuperative powers allow him to duplicate the feat this year. After reading the link on PCL's I think Mr. Surtain needs to hit the squat rack with a vengeance next offseason to strengthen those quads and take a little presure off the PCL.

Jack.. You think resting Surtain for this year to repair that knee damage would be logical to have him an extra 4-5 years?? Would you be willing to do that if you were Wannstedt?? By the way it seems, with this surgery, they're not repairing anything but just cleaning stuff out so he will have problems with it while the season is going on and may have it get worse.. If I were Wannstedt, I'd have Surtain sit the year out in order to have him for 4-6 years after this year is over... Thats probably just me though

Absolutely not. The proverbial window for this team is inching shut. Surtain even at 80-90% this year is more valuable than a healthier Surtain down the road. We need Pat on the field this year to make a serious run. Keep him out of the opener for another week of rest? Sure, Carr's gonna be on his back or running for his life the whole game, I could cover the side opposite Sam! I have a feeling he'll bounce back based on how he responded to surgery last year and we'll see him on the field for the opener.

That is true.. Surtain did play at a real high level last year and played through the pain practically alll year long..

to sit anyone for the year...

or he won't be back.

I was going to say the same thing. Okay, who's the funny guy who turned up the A.C. in hell ?

Well, that could borderline around sellfishness.. I mean Surtain needs to take about a good 6 months or more to fully heal this problem and could be very beneficial for HIS career down the road.. They should of had this started in the off-season and Surtain would of been ready by Week 6 and only have to miss half the year.. We do have quality depth but Surtains future health is at stak here..
