Fade Route & Ochocinco

For some reason we haven't been able to find a frikin WR who can handle a fade route and win a jump ball when we get inside the 10, for as long as I can remember. I didn't really watch Cincy games, so I was wondering if anyone had some intel on how Ocho does on fade routes? He is 6'1" 195lbs so hes not exactly a big WR, but he's not small either.
Anyone have some insight on the topic?:thanks:

You are missing the point that Chad Henne could not throw them. Matt Moore can but only Hartline was bale to beat anyone deep. Marshall was never a threat to run past anyone.

Henne was freakin horrible at throwing fades! Hartline is only 6-2. That said even if he could get past his guy he is still too short. I couldnt stand seeing fades thrown his way. IMO even though Marshall was covered, you still throw the fade to him.

Hartline is 6'2" with a 34.5" vert...not bad but he does have some relatively short arms and he's never displayed the ability to go up and fight for the ball in the air. The jump ball has never been his thing.

As for Marshall I think he caught a couple of fades last year but he dropped 2 or 3 of them in the end zone as well. It was never Henne's best throw and Moore struggled with it a lot. Tannehill on the other hand did it quite often at TAMU with Fuller and Garrard is also pretty proficient at it.

Fades are a low % play. It's what you do when you can't run it in, or have a Qb who can move around while keeping his eyes in the end zone for a receiver to break free.

I'm not a big fan of fades, unless you have someone like Larry Fitzgerald, who always wins jump balls.

Inside the 10, I think a back shoulder pass would be better for Ocho.

It is one route we need to be able to run, everyone does really. If you take away something yourself you make it easier on the defense. It can be a killer play. Marshall should of been great at it. Hartline should be good at it with a QB that has touch. The biggest reason that Hartline rarely thrown the football in the redzone, Marshall had most of them.

Hartline does need to catch better with his hands.

Chad Johnson has made a living running fade routes. Or at least having the threat of running it.
