Why won't this team draft a QB?Since Marino left we haven't even attempted it.I take that back Ithink we made one attempt with Josh Heupel. I realize the Franchise was putting their faith in guys like Fiedler,Feely,Griese,Frerotte, and presently Daunte,Joey, and Cleo. However, my point is would it have hurt thru all these guys to have had a drafted QB on backup because even if Daunte,Joey,or Cleo is the answer we will always need a replacement eventually. It seems to me to be common procedure. Looking around the league other franchises losing QBs seem to immediatley do this or some teams will just pick one up as a regular habit in late rounds as a future measure. How nice would it be to end this dilemma and know who are starter is(or have a guy groomed and ready to go) and get back to normalcy and have a guy that the offense can gel with for more than one season and build some consistantcy.I am about to add this question to the all time great "Why couldnt we get Dan Marino a superstar runningback?" The Dolphins will always be my team win or lose but it is beyond me why we cant make key moves? Interested to know how u guys feel about these situations?

There's no real explanation of our position except for piss poor planning. No one in the front office ever seems to think QB on draft day 1 or 2. I know we have glaring holes to fill on our roster every year, but at some point in time enough is enough.

when do you think they should have drafted one and who?
until miami got the second pick, they were always picking 18+ and if there was a franchise QB in the draft they were gone before then. unless you think aaron rogers would have been a better pick than ronnie brown. even this year, if russell or quinn are not picked there isn't a QB worth taking until day 2 and that includes stanton

I don't think it would be fair to say we didn't at least attempt to fix the quarterback spot after we gave up a second rounder for Daunte. Of course that really didn't work out well so far and is looking like an awful move...but at least it was an attempt.

QB is such a tough position, but since JJ took over we've only drafted like 2 QB's? (Dutton, Nevada; Heupel, OK)You have to draft more than that. Plus, we've just traded away too many draft picks for players(Seau, DBoston, RWilliams, plus trade ups in drafts for average players Greenwood, and OL Wade Smith) that we go into drafts with less ammo. We need to hold onto our picks, let older FA's walk and hope for compensatory picks- it's what NEngl, Phila and Pitt do, and they always end up with 9-11 picks every draft. Then with extra picks you take flyers on QB's most years, and do what the Pack used to do, then you trade the backups for middle rounders you can use to fill needs.

We also haven't had a real GM in title and role for a long time! The head coach has owned personnel. This will be the first year in awhile where we have a legit GM in charge and one who has a credible history of finding QB's.

Lets revise history, since Marino's last season. Since 1999 there were 4 years that Miami didn't have a 1st round pick for whatever reasons. The only year that Miami could have conceivably drafted a QB in the 1st round was 2001. The Dolphins drafted 26th that year and took CB Jamar Fletcher. Dolfans every where clamoring for Drew Brees and still Wannstedt and company passed. It hasn't happened to often since Marino, where Miami could take a QB in the 1st round. It would be a mistake, IMO, if Brady Quinn was available #9 and the Dolphins passed.

Were Set At Quarterback!!

:sidelol: Even if Daunte were to come back, he has only a few good years in him, what are you hoping for? Joey to make a miraculous return in his 2nd year to us, and become a franchise QB? Or are you Hoping for Lemon to comeout of no where close to here he was drafted ala Brady?

We need a drafted QB to start grooming now, and not just a Rookie QB, but a QB that has skills and can learn and become better.

What?? Daunte has more then a few good years left in him, QB is one of the few positions where age isn't an issue. Daunte could play for another 8 or 9 years at a very high level, does that mean we don't need to draft a QB this year and/or next yearr? No, but Daunte isn't even close to being out of football. With Randy Mueller in charge of the draft, we should be just fine with our future QB position and the draft.

Yes, at 30 he only has a few good years because...

1. He has taken alot of punishment in his career. He is not a true passer, and when he has run with the ball, he tends to power his way to a few more yards, instead of taking the famous QB slides most QBs try.

2. He does not have that quick a release, not the greatest at reading defenses, and needs time to find the open receiver, so he has had to scramble, or get hit from behind quite a bit.....those type of hits take their toll on you, no matter how big and starong you are.

3. He is coming off a very serious injury, even if he does come back, he will have lost some of his speed, he will take some shots through the season, and those hits are going to only

If he comes back, the most you can expect from him is 2-3 years, in that time you could have this years drafted Rookie QB ready to take the helm.

Great points. I'm always amazed every year to see New England and Pittsburgh with 2-3 extra compensatory picks. Personally, I believe this system should be done away with as the salary cap is supposedly the great equalizer. But Miami might as well use the current system to their advantage as well. By the way, it would be interesting to chart what players New England and Pittsburgh took with those comp picks and to see if any have made a difference.

Problem is that age is not the issue with his, it is a combination of alot of things, if you have watched how Daunte runs with the ball, you will see that he tends to run like a Full back with a few moves here and there, but uses his big body for extra yards alot.

I wish we could have a healthy Daunte for 10 more years, but you need to look at his situation, it is going to be tough to get more then 3 good years out of him. Besides if he proves that he is back, and goes for more then 3 years, we can always trade the QB we take this year.

We need to at worse start grooming a QB now in case Daunte never reaches his old form, and at best at least we have an insurance policy in case in the future daunte can't go anymore.

Wouldn't have hurt at all considering all the wasted early picks we've had since then.
