I'm not going to predict playoffs or anything like that, but I do believe Miami has had a fantastic offseason. Looking at each area:
Quarterbacks -- Still the number one question going into training camp, but at least Miami has some talented young players to work with. The additions of McCown and Henne gives the Dolphins more talent to work with. I haven't given up on Beck as I feel he has the main things (accuracy, leadership, smarts) that you look for at qb. Henne is very intriguing and a player that I liked at Michigan. He has the toughness to play through pain and reminds me a bit of Trent Dilfer.
Offensive line -- last year only Carey was above average with Satele emerging. This year at least 3 out of the 5 are above average starters. All of a sudden a huge weakness should become an overall strength. Smiley, Long and Murphy are all great additions.
Running Back -- Brown was emerging as a franchise back behind a terrible offense line. Ricky is back, but probably not in the long-term plans. Miami is going to run the ball like crazy. Parmalee has tools to work with.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends -- Solid additions in Wilford and Fasero, but still lack the true #1 guy. Ginn should be better in his second season. This looks like a weakness heading into training camp.
Defensive Line -- Love the additions of Merling and Lankford. Plus Ferguson is a solid stopgap at NT. Holiday, if healthy, is still a player and Wright showed promise. This could be a strength.
Linebackers -- Hated losing Zach Thomas and despite all the new additions, I'm not sure how this unit will fare. If Taylor is not traded, Miami has a game changer on defense. I'm guessing this unit is at least average and an area, along with receiver and corner, that will be solidified next season.
Defensive Backs -- Will Allen is a nice cover guy, but Miami is still lacking the ballhawk in the secondary. Jason Allen looks to be emerging. It's kind of a make or break year for him with a new regime on hand. I don't think you can count on Yeremiah Bell much. This is still a major weak spot.
Special Teams --- Could very easily go from weakness to strength with all the new additions.
Summary --- We are building the right way and making progress. The quarterback situation should sort itself out, meaning the offense will be pretty close (wr needed). On defense the secondary and middle linebacker are the biggest areas of need.
