Hello fellow finfans, I have come to making a painful decision. I am torn, should I do it or not….

It’s a bit personal, you’ve been warned.

I’ve been a finfan since Woodley years. Endured little joy and mostly misery. This is the path I choose, I have only myself to blame.

My son was born in late 2000s . He has been watching dolphins with me since kindergarten. I have given him dolphins jerseys and gears through the years. I took time to tell him about dolphins history, about Shula, Marino, Mercury Morris, AJ Duhe, Manny Fernandez, Earl Morall, Blackwood brothers, Marks brothers….etc. I explained to him about roll out, hurry up offense, zone read, why full back is out of fashion….etc. I took him to his first game two years ago. He gradually has bocame a dolphins fan just like me. ( side note; he is an excellent student. Straight A every year. Numerous honor roll and received President Academic Achievement award. Unlike his old dad lol. He is in sixth grade now ).

Last night during the shut out, for the first time, I have noticed he was visibly upset. I really don’t want him to endure life time of misery like me by becoming a dolphins fan. So I want to give him a good talk this week. Telling him not to become a dolphins fan. Stop taking him to the games. Try not to watch the games with him anymore. Try to diversify when we watch sports. This is a decision I need to make now before too late

Fellow finfans, I am torn. Should I do it or not?

Personally, I'd go with the odds that the Dolphins could possibly be any worse than they have been the last 20 years or so. I am hoping we have paid of price for the crime of going undefeated and Marino

Try growing up a Chargers fan.... he has it easy.

If by visibly upset you mean teary eyes and overall evening/day ruined based upon a game, should try explaining no matter what happens, it's just a game. Not one to tell another how to parent, so that overall choice is yours to make, I just know personally with my father growing up, yes I became a Miami fan because of him(while we never had close bond even to this day.. it's just mostly small Dolphins talk and then we go on our ways) but it wasn't so much about the fact we liked the same team and allowed the outcome of games to affect us personally, it was about that time together as father and son rather it be watching the game or excited preparing for a trip to see game in person.

Myself personally, I would never go back and decide on a different team, I mean after all these years and years upon years, it's bound to pay off at some point right? The next time we reach a superbowl, it is going to taste so sweet even if we don't win

I don't think these are the kinds of negative feelings in life you should be attempting to protect him from.

There's far worse out there. Protect him from that. In this case the bitter is needed so the sweet is that much sweeter.

If there is no pain, there is no pleasure.

Wise thing to say.

You know what....Can we just put this thread to the depths...I mean it is such a paradox, we are not suppose to comment on the poster, but when the post is about the poster, what should we do? I mean, this has nothing to do with football and barely about the Dolphins. It is more a question about parenting.

It's only football but life is full of disappointments haha so maybe he'll handle REAL life better when it doesn't go as planned.
Fin fan since 01. Will never stop cheering. I run 3 beer league hockey teams and all the jerseys are teal, white and orange.
Go Dolphins!!!

It’s just football, it can’t lead to a life of misery. Take it from a guy that who was endorsing Matt Moore all week :=). I actually had life **** going down last night and missed the game. Too bad!

Also bear in mind my dad was a Pats fan who happened to kind of like the Dolphins when I was a little boy (Woodley years, same as you). If only I went with his team, I’d be here trolling instead of crying with the rest.

Let him grow up a fan of whichever team he chooses. To try and talk him out of becoming a fan because they haven't won or been in a Super Bowl in many years is silly. If I was a Patriots fan, sure I would be happy but nobody outside of my inner circle or Boston would give a damn.

Blush cheeks. Yelling at tv. Almost teary eyes but not quite.
