A few tidbits from the Cup itself.

The motto for this worldcup was simple: Friends in Germany and it is all so true. This worldcup is a celebration of sports, no politics, no hooligans (a few minor incidents)..its all about celebrating the biggest sporting event of human kind. You have to give German and FIFA security a huge point and of course all the other law enforcement agencies around the world (i.e. England, France, S Korea, Brazil, Argentina...just to name a few) who kept this cup safe for everybody. You must also give German organizer a huge credit for keeping everybody busy. There are fanzones throughout the country (with the biggest one in Berlin) where different fans from different nations can watch soccer games. Wins and losses become secondary, the winners console the losers and in between it is just a huge party.

Once again, despite all the rivalry, fans around the world know to appreciate their sports.

to add to that: here is Mr Blatter:

Has the sheer scale of the event in Germany surprised you?
I'm not surprised. We've known for a long time that in this great football nation at the heart of Europe, where the 'beautiful game' is king, the World Cup would be a success. The organisation has been superb and the stadiums have been full. On a personal note, I must admit the numbers taking part in the Fan Fests have exceeded all my expectations: nearly a million in Berlin and hundreds of thousands across Germany, with a huge foreign presence too. So far, we've counted more than 11 million supporters at the Fan Fests. The Germans promised that "the world would be welcomed by friends" and, well, I just have to applaud them.

Here is a picture of the Fanfest in Berlin. An average of 500,000 to 700,000 fans from every nation gathers there. And it was only planned for 150,000 or so....lol
