Fifth year option decision for ot ju'wan james due in may

Yeah I would decline that ****. I want to keep James as our RT, but he's not worth that much. Work out a cheaper deal when his contract is up.

I think the team will pick it up in all honesty. It might seem steep, but he played well enough (after a poor start) to command more than that in free agency.

You think?! I'm not sure he'll command more than $8 million a year on the market. I guess maybe I would pick it up, but only with the intentions of extending him and lowering that cap hit to around $6 million a year.

They're absolutely going to do it. ****, they'll probably try to extend him early if they can.

Itl happen. Slow start last year with new scheme but he played really well towards the end of the season

Top graded lineman over the last five or six games last season, right?

Dont really know why but i get the impression he is the type of guy that will stick around without making unreasonable salary demands...that option is steep though but if you have to shell out for one year thats alot less disruptive than whiffing on an overpaid long term deal.

Agree the intention will be to extend him, but he won't be cheap. Ricky Wagner just got $9.5m AAV on a five year deal. The Seahawks gave Luke Joeckel $8m on a one year prove it. Ju'wuan James is probably somewhere in between those two numbers in AAV terms on the open market.

Keep in mind, this only guarantees him for injury in 2018. They can still cut him without paying him a dime prior to the league year opening. . . However you would lose his value in the compensatory formula.

Also the salary would be a fully guaranteed one and the total value would be the total cap hit . . . A longterm extension would certainly lower the hit.

Still this will definitely happen by the deadline.

I guess it'll happen....hate it though

Phins will be drafting another OT that can play guard.

Early.

May of this year or next? This will be his 4th year and final on his rookie deal. I thought they don't have to decide to exercise that until the end of this upcoming season

The window for the fifth year option is January to May after third year of the rookie contract. All the 2014 draftees with fifth year options are in the window now.
