Hey guys, at the Panthers game, my buddy and I had a bet about the fight song. I say we had it and then the writer sold it to the Oilers, he contends that they had it first and then the writer sold it to us. Who's right?

You are. We had it first. There's another thread on the topic buried on the board somewhere.

By the way, I know because I'm old enough to know. We had it long before Earl Campbell.

that pics is so great, ive said it before man but cox was the man, and seeing that makes me clamor for the throwback unis

i thought we stole it from the oilers

No, we had it years before the Oilers. I remember that song from the glory seasons, when we had the teenage and younger Dolphin Doll cheerleaders. It would mostly play in the background after we scored, with white hankies temporarily dressing both decks of the Orange Bowl. The Oilers made a bigger deal of the song in the late '70s during "Luv Ya Blue" and it was given huge play by ABC in primetime games early in the Earl Campbell era. I remember Frank Gifford saying something like, "Every time we say that's the Oiler song, we get flooded with complaints from Miami."

I don't know the specifics. Something about Joe Robbie being too cheap to pay for rights to the song and the guy who wrote it eventually selling them to Houston. That's what I've always heard, anyway.

We had it in like 1973 if i remember correctly, i dont know when Houston had it but i'm pretty sure we had it first....
