Here would be my All-Time Dolphins Team
Roster breakdown is Offense 23, Defense 23, Special Teams 7
Note: I am still mulling some of the end of the roster guys, so this list is subject to change. :D
Head Coach: Coach Don Shula
Offensive Coordinator: Howard Schnellenberger
Defensive Coordinator: Bill Arnsparger
OFFENSE - Multiple using base 11 personnel
DEFENSE - Multiple using base 335
SPECIAL TEAMS
There are other guys you could substitute in, or stash as a Punt/Kick Returner (e.g. Jarvis Landry), we all have our favorites, and formation matters. My formation is more fluid, so some times a guy listed as OLB plays DE (Cam Wake) and vice versa (Jason Taylor), or maybe we play two DT's, or even 6 DB's. But, with this lineup, we have that flexibility on defense. On Offense, I'm going with a power run game (Csonka) and a pass-first offense utilizing Marino and our stellar WR corps. With our great OL players and dominant edge protection we're able to sub in Fasano for protection at TE and Tony Nathan as a 3rd down back, so we have flexibility. But make no mistake about it, if you drop into coverage or edge blitz us, we're putting the rock under Larry Csonka's arm and having him run behind Larry Little pulling behind Jake Long at RT .. and devastating your lightweight defense. Speed doesn't matter when you've got a broken jaw and fear in your eyes ... both of which Larry Csonka causes. If you bring that scared strong safety into the box to attempt to slow down Csonka, Marino will BURN YOU. This offense is near-unstoppable, we're never out of a game, speed on the outside, dominant run game, guaranteed 3rd and 1 conversions with Csonka and this OL ... Best ... Offense ... Ever. Even the 49'ers defense can't stop this offense with Csonka and this OL.
So yeah, I firmly believe that this All-Time team is the best franchise All-Time team in the NFL. Offense is unstoppable, clear best offense ever. Our Defense has a mastermind DC who is as good as Belichick or anyone else on defense. The players include a lot of difference makers, and a lot of guys who generate takeaways. No, we're not gonna win many games 3-0, but with this offense, our defense only needs to slow down offenses and with this pass rush, we will. We only need a few takeaways to blow this game wide open, and with these LB's and DB's, we're getting a lot of takeaways. We will win the turnover game.
At the end of the day, there's simply too many good players to have a definitive roster or even starting lineup. That's what makes our discussion so much fun! Let me know your lineups ... feel free to use this matrix ... and tell us what your rationale is for including the guy I or someone else didn't include.
Thanks in advance! Glad to hear all these viewpoints!
