Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Brian Finneran, who was expected to be Michael Vick's most reliable target in an inexperienced receiving corps, went down with a knee injury at the team's evening practice Sunday.
Although Vick told SI.com he feared the worst and believed Finneran would be out for the year, there was no definitive word on the extent of the injury. Coach Jim Mora said he would wait until the results of a Monday morning MRI before commenting on the injury.
"I'm hoping for the best," Mora said. "But it looks like a serious injury. I'm not overly optimistic."
A downcast and emotional Vick said it was hard for him or teammates to focus on practice after seeing Finneran go down in a simple 1-on-1 receiving drill, covered by rookie first-round-pick Jimmy Williams.
The loss off Finneran would be a devastating one for the Falcons because neophyte receivers Roddy White and Michael Jenkins have not established themselves as NFL regulars.
