ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are not willing to compete financially with the Dolphins' contract offer to Jim Harbaugh.

Schefter cautions that San Francisco is not totally out of the hunt, but the Fins' offer is believed to be in the $7-8 million range. SI's Peter King calls that number "insane," and it would make Harbaugh the richest head coach in the NFL. The Niners are reportedly "ready to move on" if Harbaugh follows the cash. As of late Wednesday, Stephen Ross' Dolphins appeared to have emerged as the favorites to land the soon-to-be-former Stanford coach. Jan. 5 - 11:22 pm et

I mean if you have to be "classless" and spoiled rich to get the job done, who cares!

MUAHAHAHA! haha just messing.

**** it. do what you gotta do. The dolphins are gonna have to interview some minorities to satisfy the rooney rule, they should start doing that too.

This is all fine and dandy but if Harbaugh doesnt turn into the next Belichick this is going to be one of the most expensive and worst moves the dolphins have ever done.

I'm serious, they should put something in the contract that states if they dont at least reach the AFC title game within 3 or 4 years, Harbaugh should pay back some of that cash!

None of that money goes towards the cap, and ticket prices are gonna keep going up whether he's hired or not. Fans have nothing to lose, go get him.

Harbaugh is the right man for the job. It's just a great fit. We "overpaid" for Dansby, too. Ross will make his money back with the excitement that Harbaugh generates, and the Dolphins will have a coach who knows how to develop QB's. On top of that, we'll be keeping a very good GM and a very good DC. Nothing is getting trashed. We're putting ourselves in position to upgrade the negatives while maintaining (and improving) the positives.

what do you care ? it's not your money,

What a coach gets paid should never even be brought up as a concern for a fan.

I have to say ...... I SMELL DICK SABAN ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!
Because he's a college coach? Saban was a dictator, brought in all his own guys, including a quasi-GM(Mueller) who had no power. Harbaugh reportedly is happy to retain Nolan as DC and Ireland. He comes in as the aggressive coach and QB developer. Fits like a ****ing glove!

If we get Harbaugh I hope he turns out to be a great coach. But, I don't think he has done anything to merit all of this "hubub." He had a great season this year with a great college QB (Luck, literally and figuratively). And he put together a pretty decent season with Toby Gearhart at RB, running every one over. Granted he turned around a college program, but that does not translate to NFL success. Keep in mind that he interviewed for the Jets job in 2009 and they eventually went with Rexy...Not hating on the guy, just not ready to say he is the answer to all of our problems.

The one thing I like about Harbaugh is that he was born in Toledo, OH...so he is def. not all bad....

Because as a fan, I dont want an over hyped, overpaid coach or player for that matter, that doesnt deliver on all the hype. If he was an established NFL coach I'd be a little less weary on paying such a huge salary though.

All I'm saying is I expect excellence for that kind of money.
