man i don't know who's fault it is but when i seen this stat im like why in the world are we not running the ball more i just don't get it????

We aren't running the ball when we get behind, or when we are getting 2 yards or less per carry. The play calling just drifts toward passes, so that we can hopefully open up the run. No one honors our play action, nor should they at this point.

I have always believed that running the ball more helps the linemen get into sync faster, and boy-o-boy do we ever need that!

sorry guys mularkey has a 18 run / game limit. until Saban kicks mularkey out the door were not gonna see 30 + runs a game.

I agree it works very well

We ran it like 30 times against the Titans, and I believe Mularky was OC that game.

Its nice to see that all the fans are on the same page, but i really wish that the organization can see this and they would make changes. I hope we come out and just pound the ball against new england, cuz if not then Daunte is gonna get ripped apart my the patriot defense. I would rather see Ronnie run for 2 yards a carry then see daunte throw 3 picks.

MOOOOOOlarkey has to get fired

Everyone said the same thing about Linehan at the beginning of last year, when he consistently called passes. But now after seeing what he did with a whole season, everyone wants him back. How about giving people a chance to do thier job in a timely manner, before questioning them all the time.

Yes, we need to run the ball more.

However, most teams do very well when they run the ball 30+ times. The reason? When teams are ahead, they have the luxury of running the ball more. When they are ahead, that usually means they are moving the ball, getting more 1st downs, setting up more running situations.

I've always hated that stat - I think it is misleading. It basically says, teams that are winning games usually end up winning the game. They always rolled that out when Marino was here. When Miami runs for 100+ yards, they have a > .800 winning percentage. Duh. Because we were ahead and didn't have to throw it 50 times.

Exactly. Someone else making sense, hooray!

I think this thread further proves that 12 carries for Ronnie in a game is a joke. Don't make excuses for not running the ball. You have to run the ball in the NFL to win consistently.

Running the ball 30 times is a byproduct of winning the game, not necessarily the cause. A lot of those runs come at the end of the game when the team is already ahead and burning clock. Obviously the better the running attack is working the more we're going to run. But just handing the ball of 30 times when every other run play is loosing yards isn't going to accomplish anything. I remember when Jimmy Johnson was the head coach and Kareem Abdul-Jabar was our running back and people would talk about how great our record was when we ran 20 times or more. I think its safe to say no coach wants to run the ball more than Jimmy, but just simply handing the ball of X amount of times isn't going to automatically win games. It all depends on how well we're running, imagine that.

And the basis of your comment is...?

BTW - TRUDOLFAN54, please don't take my response as a bash on your post. I just have issues when the talking heads bring out this stat and pretend like all you need to do is run 30 times in a row and you win the game.

running the ball more will also take the pressure off c.pep it is a win win sit. there is no excuse why we are not running the ball more 14 carries is a joke for a guy who was the 2nd overall pick last year...
