The Dolphins do not think highly of former Penn State left tackle Levi Brown, who is thought to be the second-best available left tackle. They are, however, impressed with Joe Staley, the Central Michigan product who is thought to be a late first-round or early second-round selection. While Staley is an impressive athlete, at 6-feet-5 and 305 pounds, he has played just two seasons at left tackle after starting his college career as a tight end, and he likely would not contribute right away.

Mueller did draft Jamal Brown in NO and look how he has turned out. Mueller should be ok looking for our future LT with the assitance of Houck. One thing is for sure Houck knows his OL.

We have one of the best OL coaching units in teh league, if not the outright best. Houck is crazy good and worth every last penny he gets.

Im not a fan of Levi's, and would much rather see us go with Staley or someone else in the latter rounds. OL is one spot where you can find lots of quality starters beyond the first. Boomer made a great post about this-how many teams are going with this approach and having great success.

Would much rather nab a skill spot guy in round 1.

Taking Staley over Brown would be a mistake. I guess we never learn when it comes to drafting, unlike the Pats who can turn crap into gold.

he knows his o line? to be honest i dont buy that crap. look at our o line its ****ty. yea ok he has done a GOOD job but look at SD, there o line is sitll GOOD with new players that came w/out HOUCK BEING THERE. so is it relaly houck? i DOUBT IT. he may teach wel but he doesnt make miracles with ****TY athletes if that. Mueller (if he got brown, i dont think he did) and the almighty LT from SEA shows he knows his stuff so im not concerned with taht.

theres a bit of info there thats way more important and should answer many questions taht we have had.

assuming this is a very accurate report, notice the part wehre miami isn't bothering with moving up to the top 4-5 picks to get Thomas as they dont even wna think about letting go of all the picks neccessary to move up. So by that, its pretty obvoius quinn comes to us ONLY IF he falls to us. we most likely wont trade up. So i expect a DE (Adams,) a S (Landry) or a WR (Ginn) to be our pick. and if we go LG in FA then a LG wont be looked at in the draft in round 2-3.

Mueller knows how to draft a LT. He drafted Jamaal Brown in NO and he drafted the starting LT for the Seahawks. I have faith he will get us a good player.

the other thing is not sure where i read it but im pretty sure it said the Lions interseted in Staley in round 2. i think quinns a Lion.

Most of San diegos line is comprised of lower round picks. Remember Dielman that so many were high on? 6th rounder. Marcus McNeil, the best rookie OL? Round #2 after D'Brick and Winston Justice. OL is a position that can, and is, being filled in later rounds with great sucess.

Houck turned a unit that was miserable under Wanny into a solid unit. He made Vernon C. go from bust to boom. Part of the trouble with the line is that it has been constantly in flux with to many parts being shuffled. But each season they ahve gotten better and better. Levi brown justinst a great prospect according to many, it just happens to be a VERY shallow draft OT wise. Levi is being promoted so well because he has good experience and can possibly come in and start right away, wheras some of the other prospects may take a developmental time. Im in no way convinced Brown would be better in a year or two than Staley.

And anyway, it seems Randy Cam and Hud are high on Toledo/Alabi.

yea but mcneal was a first round talent till his "back"worried teams.

Dielman wasn't around while houck was there b/c he was in teh league for 3 yrs, houck was there i believe the 1st, the 2nd and last year he wan'st there and thats when he excelled as he barely foudn the chance to play. (according to sources etc etc).

the other, carey was a 1st round talent that almost busted but houck brought him to life. the rest of our line has NO TALENT thats the problem.

I really hope we dont sign Lehr apparently after doing research the guy was a revolving door for ATL. I think we should sign Jacox and Fonoti. Address the rest of our needs via Draft. Hopefully we go WR,Qb,OL. We shall all see how this all pans out.

Hey, I wrote a piece over at my site about the murky LT situation. Check that out.

I summarize the Palm Beach Post article, and give my thoughts on how I think the team should proceed. Ultimately, even if the team signs Matt Lehr to play LG and keeps Hadnot, Shelton, and Carey in their positions from last year, the LT could really bring down the whole unit depending on who they get to play there. It's unquestionably the most important position in football behind QB.

I don't think Carey or Shelton should be moved. Carey played tremendously at RT, and together they created good running room for Ronnie Brown. Running to the right side was significantly more productive than to the left.

I was surprised to hear that the team isn't interested in Levi Brown, but with the draft so far away, that's most likely either rumor or false information designed to confuse other teams. I expect Alabi to get a good look at LT in training camp before they write him off, and for the team to pick one of the highly rated tackles in the draft.

Check out my article, and let me know what you think.

What Has Houck Done Lately

EVERYONE KEEP RAVING ABOUT HOUCK AND HIS OFFENSIVE LINE COACHING SKILLS, WHAT HAS HE DONE SINCE COMING TO MIAMI? NAME ONE PLAYER THAT HE HAS WORKED MIRACLES WITH SINCE JOINING THE DOLPHINS?

HOUCK'S COACHING SKILLS IS VERY OVERRATED! USUALLY THE PLAYER EITHER HAD TALENT OR DIDN'T HAVE TALENT TO BEGIN WITH, OTHERWISE OUR OFFENSIVE LINE WOULDN"T BE IN THE SHAMBLES THAT MANY PERCEIVE IT TO BE IN.

YES, THERE ARE A FEW TRICKS THAT HE CAN DRILL INTO A PLAYER, BUT IF THE THE PLAYER DOESN"T HAVE THE MENTAL OR PHYSICAL CAPABILITY TO PERFORM THOSE SKILLS HOUCK TEACHINGS IS WORTH ZILCH!

FIND PLAYERS WITH TALENT AND TEACH THEM HOW TO PROPERLY MAXIMIZE THEIR TALENT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO HAVE HOUCK WORK MIRACLES, IT IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT. WE NEED TALENTED TALENT EVALUATORS, THAT'S WHAT WE NEED! NOT A MIRACLE WORKING OFFENSIVE LINE COACH.

IF OUR TALENT EVALUATORS SAYS BROWN LACKS THE TALENT THAT IT TAKES TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL OR AN ALL-PRO IN THIS LEAGUE THEN OK, LET'S PICK LANDRY, A DL, OR A WR WHO HAS THE BEST CHANCE TO BE AN ALL-PRO AND TRY TO PICK UP A OFFENSIVE LINEMAN LATER IN THE 1st or 2nd WHO THEY FEEL HAS MORE TALENT THAN BROWN!

Staley has first round potential but has experience issues.
Dielman was still a 6th rounder, no matter when HH was around him. ANd he isnt a rare phenomenon either. We can find some very good OL in rounds other than the first. Why reach for a guy who looks good mostly because there isnt anyoen else around (Brown) just because he may be more ready to play?
And HH still took a unit that was the leagues worst under Wanny to being a solid if unspectacular line. The biggest problem I see is that people want a "name" like Orlando Pace or John Ogden thinking that it would magically make our entire offense better while ignoring the fact that aside from Ronnie our skill spots are sorely lacking while our line has played well. And like I said, it seems the staff is high on ALABI and TOLEDO to fill in on the OL, so be prepared for that.
You can keep on pretending our OL sucks if you want, but there is nothing that points to us being a lock to take Levi if he is there.
THe rest of our Line DOES have talent. Hadnot is very solid, Shelton was a great guard. TOldeo and ALabi are ready to move in. We need to give it a bit of work, but we shouldnt feel obligated to blow a first rounder on it just for the sake of blowing a first rounder on it.
