Booo. A couple of hours ago it looked like we would keep it as the pick wasnt reported aa conditional

I read on twitter that he has to pay back 3.4M in bonus money but that he has to pay JAX. That makes no sense. It should be to Miami. No?

was any of his salary on the hook to Jax?

WOW that's crazy!!

Teams like the Giants and Bucs should look into getting him to play for them.

I bet he'd come out of retirement for a contender

In this article they say we will lose the 7th round pic for next year w/ Albert retiring. In a segment on the NFL channel they said it wouldn't have any bearing on Thomas as it was technically to separate trades. So it seems we just basically had the Thomas trade for the 7th from this past draft and Albert just retired, right? Anyone hear anything different?

Say what you want about the front office, but it seems to me they played their cards right on these moves.

It was a shake down year for Albert and he was not having it. There was a need for TE, so it made sense. There were factors in Jax that cause BA to retire. Jax is a hot mess

We traded our 7th for Thomas. The Jags traded their 7th for for Albert. Two seperate deals. The question was if the Albert deal was worded so that Jacksonvile only had to give Miami their 7th round pick if Albert made the roster? THe 7th we traded for Thomas has no baring on the Albert situation. 7th round picks can easily be recouped or added and the odds of a 7th round pick making a roster and having s mrsningful impact isn't much greater than the odds of an undrafted free agent doing the same. I'm not going to lose any sleep over Miami receiving or not receiving a pick from the Jags.

Or maybe BA is just angling for an extension or leverage.

Interesting angle, if he officially retires and is forced to pay back his remaining guarantee money.... is there a scenario he could force them to release his rights and make him a FA?

Barry Sanders and Ricky Williams come to mind. But the caveat I'm curious about is IF he repaid his outstanding gauranteed money?

I seem to recall a sticking point in Ricky's situation was his inability to repay money and thus needed to "work it off". Any savvy litigious gents running around with insight?

I don't think you can just retire to get out of a contract you're not happy with and then quickly turn around and come out of retirement. Plus, even if Albert could work himself out of Jacksonville, I'm not sure he would get a better deal than he already had considering his age and declining talent level. If he's retiring because of his conract and he doesn't want to play in Jacksonville than he needs to be prepared to call it quits for good.

I'm pretty sure, barring a termination of contract, a team continues to hold the rights of a retired player. I could be wrong though

We traded him and got Julius Thomas and now he's retiring is that mean anything for compensation wise or is it just the Jags are **** out of luck and we got a deal.
