The Miami Dolphins have shown an interest in re-signing free-agent RB Steve Slaton.

Dolphins | Lex Hilliard won't be tendered
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 11:31:14 -0700
The Miami Dolphins have not offered a tender to restricted free-agent RB Lex Hilliard, a sixth-round pick from 2008, making him an unrestricted free agent. Hilliard started four games for the Dolphins last season, carrying the ball 16 times for 41 yards and a touchdown. He also had five receptions for 49 yards and played on special teams. The Dolphins may try to re-sign him to a cheaper deal.

The Dolphins won't tender restricted free-agent DL Ryan Baker, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Dolphins | Phillip Merling may hit open market
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 11:30:35 -0700
The Miami Dolphins may allow DE Phillip Merling to become an unrestricted free agent to preserve some of their $15 million salary-cap space. The team could place a second-round tender on him, but he has fallen short of the team's expectations.

Dolphins | In a tough situation at quarterback
Tue, 13 Mar 2012 11:13:55 -0700
The Miami Dolphins are prepared to move on from free-agent QB Peyton Manning (Colts) if/when they hear they are not in contention to sign him. Depending on what happens with Manning, the team would then turn their attention to free-agent QB Matt Flynn (Packers). The team has determined Flynn would be their next best option if a Manning deal doesn't happen.

The Dolphins, however, are in a tough position. They don't want to offend Manning by going another direction before he is ready to make a decision, yet they don't want to offend Flynn by making it clear he is their fallback option. Further complicating the situation, teams like the Seattle Seahawks or Cleveland Browns could move quickly when the free-agent market opens to sign Flynn, which could leave Miami without their backup option and force them to wait on Manning.

I wouldn't wait on Manning. They can't afford to miss on Manning and Flynn because the alternative would be Tannehill who may not get past Cleveland.

On the other hand if those things occur, they can draft Brandon Weeden.

if cleveland pops for tannehill at #4 (or trades their pick to someone who takes tannehill), that pushes another stud player for us to choose from at #8.

I'm a little concerned about the fact that we haven't been connected to ANY other player in FA besides Manning. We have no interest in Robert Meachem? Eric Winston? Reggie Nelson? Dan Connor? Evan Mathis? Brisel?
I hope that our silence doesn't carry over into the next few days. Even if we don't make a splash with Manning, we need to at the very least pick up a few pieces.

If Flynn doesn't understand why he's second fiddle to Manning than he's a fool.
