Somewhere, Mark Duper and Mark Clayton have to be shaking their heads. For those of you born after Dan Marino was breaking passing records weekly in the '80s, Duper and Clayton formed football's most exciting WR duo. Last year's Miami receiving leader was Ted Ginn, who ranked outside the NFL's top 40 in both catches and yards. Mark this down as a make-or-break year for Ginn, the former top 10 pick and the only game-breaking talent at WR on the team. Davone Bess was a surprise as a rookie in '08, and the team hopes he can build on his success (54 catches, 554 yards). But this group is grimm unless Ginn takes a big step forward

It's kinda wierd because I think the WR corps will surprise this season. But I can also understand the ranking.

Ginn was outside the top 40? Unpossible. I'm told he's a stud by everyone at Finheaven. This ranking is baloney.

Ted Ginn is the greatest ever. There is NO way he's the 40th best WR in the NFL in yards and, receptions.

Oh wait...Yeah he is.

We're ranked that low because we simply don't have any big names at the position. I think our receivers play better as a unit than a lot of teams who do have some big names.

I'm not sure, but if Penny had a strong arm, how many yards do you think Ginn would have had last year.. Every bomb thrown to Ginn last year, with the exception of the Seattle game TD, Ginn had to come back to.. Insert Jay Culter for Penny and take a guess at Ginn's yards... I'm curious to see what you think he would have had.. btw, I'm hoping Penny's off season yr 2 workouts produce a stronger arm..

I did not like the Ginn pick. Then again, I wanted Quinn, who may have been worse.

Ginn went from 34 catches and 420 yards to 56 catches and 790 yards, not bad.

I was really down on him until I saw his interview early last season. The learning disorder was VERY evident, and I had a new found respect for the guy. It appeared to me that absorbing the playbook was like you and I absorbing an encyclopedia (over-exaggerated). Yet, he played pretty well.

I gotta give him this year to improve, as he did last season, and am now in his corner.

The Dolphin receivers really have not proven themselves, so a bottom third ranking is reasonable. The ranking of 29th is too low, but I am not overly surprised by this.

Always an excuse for Ginn. I have figgured out that certain players on this team will have a built in appoligy for thier performance no matter what.

BTW......

That stuff about hopeing Pennington comes back with a stronger arm? They'd been saying that in NY for years and years. I remember NYJunc stopping by one day and asking if Pennington had tried Karate again to get more tourqe on the ball.

I wouldn't count on it.

Learning the playbook was not the problem in Ginn's rookie season.
Lost his rookie year?

"Oh, yeah,'' Ted Ginn Jr. said. "Didn't know nothing. Didn't know the coverages. Didn't know exactly what to do. I thought I knew everything coming in, because I did a good job at the college level."

Improved his second year?

"Yeah, you start adjusting to the system, to the coverages,'' he said. "That makes you faster. I didn't think I was fast, because it took a while to figure everything out. But I got faster."

Now, before his third year?

"Ready to go,'' he said.

I'm just dogging on him a little. As long as he shows improvment year to year, I'm ok with Ginn at least playing out his rookie deal.

You're splitting hairs. "Not knowing what to do" is somewhat associated with a playbook. :)

I understand the ranking. Maybe we should get a little more love because of Bess - his numbers did project out to over 1,000 yards - and Fasano, but it's a group that for now has potential and not much production. I hope that Ginn, Bess, and company produce enough to have us rank higher next season, but for now, it's a pretty fair ranking.

Did you even read what was quoted? Not knowing the coverages has nothing to do with the playbook.

Ginn may have known what he was supposed to do, in regards to the playbook, but he didn't know how to or when to make adjustments. What good is knowing the playbook if you keep running into coverages instead away or out of them.

This is a definite WTF article with us being #12 in receiving yards(team wide) just 29 yards behind "the incredible"passing attack of the Patriots LAST SEASON{ BUT WE ARE GOING TO DROP DOWN TO NUMBER 29...NOT IN THIS LIFETIME...}
