Fins want to extend Wake, could tag OV

I wouldn't mind giving OV some coin if he was more consistent

So to me that means Grimes will be cut or traded and Miller will walk.

Love the move. Hope it gets done in BOTH cases.

BTW, I want the Fins to win for its loyal fans, but shortly after that, I want to win for Wake. What a pro...what an athlete...what a high character guy. Love Wake.

Pretty much echoes what I think . . . extend Wake in what would be his "final contract" and franchise OV and work out a long term deal. People are looking at the franchise tag as a detriment . . . but in actuality it benefits the team far more than it does the player.

Gives them another year of evaluation and more time to work on a long term deal.

Wake has said he would take a pay cut....find a reasonable rate for a pass rush specialist tht will play about 50% of the snaps and go from there.

Agreed.. He definitely needs to take a pay cut. Cut to 50% of the plays and at least that for salary.

I think I can be on board with this. Would love if Wake called Miami his only home. Rare a player does that these days. And I so badly want to get that man to the playoffs.

I think half of an 8.5 million dollar salary is a straight low ball offer for Cam Wake. You don't treat a guy who signed a team friendly deal to begin with and is a Dolphins hall of famer . . . like that. If he's hasn't lost much due to injury, he is still a top level pass rusher.

Gotta turn that 8.5 million for 1 year, into a 3 year, 20 million dollar type of deal . . . and structure it so where the cap hits benefit your best interest. Even if its a bunch of guaranteed money, who cares, Cam Wake has brought in plenty of dollars for Steve Ross . . . he is a reason why people will show up to the game. If he wants to chase a ring, then he has that right but hopefully both parties can work out a deal to where he can retire a Dolphin.

It's amazing some peoples take at reading between the lines

You don't want insult him...he's doing the team a solid and would get a lot of attention if cut. Find a reasonable rate that would lessen the camp hit, spread it over a few years, but still pay for what he will contribute, which on a lighter load could still be double digit sacks.

How the Dolphins could bring back Wake, Vernon and save money in ’16

So the Dolphins could lower Suh’s cap hit by $18 million this season. That means that even by giving Vernon the tag and lowering Wake’s hit by, say, $3 million this year, the Dolphins would free up $6 million in 2016.

The Dolphins also have other potential savings to look at including receiver Greg Jennings, who could be released for a savings of $4 million.

Tight end Jordan Cameron and cornerback Brent Grimes (both $9.5 million cap hits) are both possibilities for restructures.

NFL Network reported that the salary cap will rise to at least $155 million this season from $143 million, so that could be an additional $12 million — making it more feasible for the Dolphins to re-sign running back Lamar Miller.

The Dolphins currently have $8.7 million in cap room, per overthecap.com.

Still doubt the Grimes restucture is in the cards although the rest could happen, not sure if we would be able to do much in FA though unless more purging.
