i am a SW Texas State alum... and i watched a couple of games this year. Now i wasn't looking for anyone but i did SEE Evans. He really stood out. Primarily SWT had a flashy offense and that is what everyone was watching... but on D Evans got a ton of penetration and made several tackles 2-3 yards in the backfield. he was double teamed all day when the play was away from him and triple teamed if the play was too him. this was against a lower level of talent but all i can say is WOW he was physically dominant.

what i saw of his play...
  • huge punch that put him at least one yard deep into the offensive backfield on every play great first 2 or 3 steps
  • good balance - didn't go down or loose ground even when cut or blindsided by multiple blockers
  • good instincts fighting against traps.. several times the opponent would use an inside trap to try and open something in the middle... Evens adjusted immediately during the play and closed down the gap
  • slow in overall speed. - if a play broke and evens was chasing the ball.... he lacked the speed necessary to make any difference in the play.
all in all i would say he will make an excellent 0 gap player for us... he should put on another 20 pounds.. but he can close down the inside running game.

granted smaller school and all that

edit: oh yea they changed the school name this year.. now its texas state university at south west.... what a joke

Whats his size exactly? And can he play DE in a 3-4 scheme?

I believe they said he was around 310.

He's expected to play NT.

So I'm holding out big hope that he can be adequate there.

At his Pro Day in March, Evans measured 6'3 3/4" and weighed 305 pounds. He only did 18 or 19 bench press reps so he needs to get stronger. He ran a 5.1 in the 40 yard dash.

Hey Eric, can he play the NT in your opinion? Saban says he's going to try him there.

yes i think he can be a good NT... he's too slow outside of the initial push to play anything else IMHOP.

i think for the NFL i would want him to get bigger... but honestly Zgonina isnt that big and he played some for us last year there... so?

I read that besides the lower level of competition they played Texas A&M and he dominated in that game too. I'm sure that caught Saban's interest.
