Yeah it's still very early, but this is the draft forum so deal with it:d-day:. This is all based on what we've seen from our team so far. I think right now we'll pick 4th or 5th. IMO the Rams,Bengals, and Chiefs have all looked worse than us and you can argue against the Browns (who will get better) and the Lions (debatable) have looked worse than us through 2 games. Here it goes...
1:Vontae Davis CB, Illinois I cannot stress how much I want Rey Mauluga on the Miami Dolphins. The only player I remember in recent years wanting on our team more than Rey Rey is Jay Cutler. However, after watching 2 games this season, it has become very evident that we need secondary help over LB help (and Rey REy probably will be a top 3 pick). Vontae is the little brother of Vernon Davis. He is also a physical freak at 6' 204 lbs with a sub 4.4 40. IMO he's probably the better prospect than Michael Jenkins. Davis is a very physical CB that Tuna and Ireland will love.
2a: Brian Cushing LB, USC This pick is really a wait and see. Cushing can play OLB,ILB, and has lined up at DE in the past. Talent wise, Cushing could be a top 10 pick. HOWEVER, he has constantly had to battle injuries. As of right now, Cushing is being projected anywhere from the mid first, to the early 2nd (same with another very good prospect Aaron Curry). So this pick might not be very realistic by the end of the season. But right now it's about right.
2b:Terence Taylor NT, Michigan Jason Ferguson is on the wrong side of 30, and Saoli still probably isn't ready to be a NT. T2 was recruited to be a NT in Michigan's 3-4, but they switched to a 4-3 his Freshmen season. Taylor is still a prototypical NT, and can take up blocks.
3: Demetrius Bryd WR, LSU Whether Tuna,Ireland, and Sparano want to admit it, we need WR help. Ginn could/should be fine, he was just drafted way too early as a project, but Hagan has yet to do anything so this year will be pivotal for him. I was tempted to take Derrick Williams, but he too is a very raw WR like Ginn. Instead I went with one of the top senior WRs in the country. On the other hand, if we don't go WR with one of the underclassmen that might come out, we might not want to go WR as this group is relatively thin (but we are in a rough spot)
4: Derrick Pegues S, Mississippi State-Chris Crocker and Renaldo Hill have looked awful, and Yeremiah Bell has not been much better. On the plus, Jason Allen hasn't looked too bad (especially on ST). S might also be a high priority, but this is a fairly deep draft at S. Pegues is a tad small at 5'11 196 and isn't really fast either (4.5 40), but he's a big hitter and has been a playmaker in college.
5: Cedric Dockery OG, Texas We are in desperate need of OL depth, and good interior linemen can be had in the later rounds. Dockery is a big bruiser
6:n/a
7a: Brannan Sutherland FB, Georgia For a power running team, you know what's needed? A good FB.Darian Barnes was not good. Regan Mauia (despite what some on this board say) was not good), Boomer Grigsby was not good. Will Sutherland solve our problem?
7b: AQ Shipley C, Penn State Again, good interior linemen can be had late in the draft, and Shipley can play guard or C
7c: Antonio Appleby ILB, Virginia Tuna uses the Al Groh connection to get a young LB late that could develop
