Yeah it's still very early, but this is the draft forum so deal with it:d-day:. This is all based on what we've seen from our team so far. I think right now we'll pick 4th or 5th. IMO the Rams,Bengals, and Chiefs have all looked worse than us and you can argue against the Browns (who will get better) and the Lions (debatable) have looked worse than us through 2 games. Here it goes...

1:Vontae Davis CB, Illinois I cannot stress how much I want Rey Mauluga on the Miami Dolphins. The only player I remember in recent years wanting on our team more than Rey Rey is Jay Cutler. However, after watching 2 games this season, it has become very evident that we need secondary help over LB help (and Rey REy probably will be a top 3 pick). Vontae is the little brother of Vernon Davis. He is also a physical freak at 6' 204 lbs with a sub 4.4 40. IMO he's probably the better prospect than Michael Jenkins. Davis is a very physical CB that Tuna and Ireland will love.

2a: Brian Cushing LB, USC This pick is really a wait and see. Cushing can play OLB,ILB, and has lined up at DE in the past. Talent wise, Cushing could be a top 10 pick. HOWEVER, he has constantly had to battle injuries. As of right now, Cushing is being projected anywhere from the mid first, to the early 2nd (same with another very good prospect Aaron Curry). So this pick might not be very realistic by the end of the season. But right now it's about right.

2b:Terence Taylor NT, Michigan Jason Ferguson is on the wrong side of 30, and Saoli still probably isn't ready to be a NT. T2 was recruited to be a NT in Michigan's 3-4, but they switched to a 4-3 his Freshmen season. Taylor is still a prototypical NT, and can take up blocks.

3: Demetrius Bryd WR, LSU Whether Tuna,Ireland, and Sparano want to admit it, we need WR help. Ginn could/should be fine, he was just drafted way too early as a project, but Hagan has yet to do anything so this year will be pivotal for him. I was tempted to take Derrick Williams, but he too is a very raw WR like Ginn. Instead I went with one of the top senior WRs in the country. On the other hand, if we don't go WR with one of the underclassmen that might come out, we might not want to go WR as this group is relatively thin (but we are in a rough spot)

4: Derrick Pegues S, Mississippi State-Chris Crocker and Renaldo Hill have looked awful, and Yeremiah Bell has not been much better. On the plus, Jason Allen hasn't looked too bad (especially on ST). S might also be a high priority, but this is a fairly deep draft at S. Pegues is a tad small at 5'11 196 and isn't really fast either (4.5 40), but he's a big hitter and has been a playmaker in college.

5: Cedric Dockery OG, Texas We are in desperate need of OL depth, and good interior linemen can be had in the later rounds. Dockery is a big bruiser

6:n/a

7a: Brannan Sutherland FB, Georgia For a power running team, you know what's needed? A good FB.Darian Barnes was not good. Regan Mauia (despite what some on this board say) was not good), Boomer Grigsby was not good. Will Sutherland solve our problem?

7b: AQ Shipley C, Penn State Again, good interior linemen can be had late in the draft, and Shipley can play guard or C

7c: Antonio Appleby ILB, Virginia Tuna uses the Al Groh connection to get a young LB late that could develop

too early, but from the looks of it, it should come down to what you just put out there, position wise ... IMO i'd see WR, OLB, CB and Safety drafted in the top 3 rounds in any order (even though i WOULD like us to draft Crabtree or any receiver of that caliber), those are very big needs for us

the NT position is important but we have many options with ferguson, soliai and maybe even starks...

The trifecta will go LB early and often. I have no problem with Davis he is easily the best CB in the draft and maybe the only first rounder (Jenkins will end up at FS). However, the way that the trifecta drafts historically they will take multiple players at the same position. See DE, RB and OG this year. LB is a huge postion of need both at OLB and ILB. Look for MIA to take at least 2 LB's in their first four picks especially with the quality of the OLB/DE coming out this year. By the way I really like the Appleby pick but he is probably more of a 4-5 rdr at this point.

definitely on the money Doc.

We will go one OLB and one ILB for sure along wiht a CB and WR. expect 2 DB's and one being a safety. my sleeper pick will be a RB. I doubt we go TE cuz martin is doing well surprisingly and fasano as well. BP loves to draft TE's all the time but i think he sits it out this year.

I think based strictly on what we need not BPA, we need to be looking either at the oline again or go for DB. That is where we are hurting more then anywhere else. We really dont need to worry about stopping the run because our secondary is next to nonexsistent.

i don't know about ILBs .... our run defence is pretty good and it should get better as Langford and Merling grow into their roles .... the one thing we need to fix on defence is passing defence and there is basically 2 ways, draft a pass rusher or a shutdown corner

history tells us this regime tends to draft oversized OLBs that can basically Rush the passer and contain run plays inside, things Roth and Porter have had a lot of issues with this year

imo it's either a big WR or a brutal OLB ... selvie as an OLB anyone ?

i haven't watched selvie YET but i ahve heard ntn but praise on him. how is he and who does he remind u of IF you have watched him that is, if not dont respond cuz i dont want an assumption like mine lolll.

I relaly like Davis at CB as well. i think jenkins will be a bust. hes overrated and hell be one of those DB's that wont live up to their top 10 spots.

Well since its looking like we will have a top three pick, I think we go LB first which will either be Maualuga, Selvie or Laurinaitis. I dont see us taking a wideout after the way Ginn is panning out so that rules out Crabtree. I would love to us going CB early with either Davis or Jenkins but after seeing last years draft I think that will be addressed in round two.

Does anyone here see the Fins going O-LIne early again this year since our line is taking a beating so far. Since Carey is out of contract next year also is there a chance he could be let go and we take Oher if he is there. Moving Long to RT and leaveing Oher on the left.

i've watched at least 4/5 USF games last year... selvie made some plays out there but i was mostly watching 3 players on that defence all the time: mike jenkins, trae williams and Ben moffitt. Selvie wasn't known as much as he is this year, but he still caught my attention a few times, making big plays especially sacks. I'd have to rewatch some gametape to tell you more, after all, i've been playing defensive end so i pretty much know how to evaluate a guy at that position, i'll look for a torrent of their last game

btw he is 6'4 245pounds ... nice shape for an oLB

nice, thanks. yea i saw his size and read up on him a few times and its all gravy info so far. he had 14.5 sacks last year i believe. his size is perfect. is he a DE in a 4-3 currently in college? or are they running a 3-4? as of right now im crazy for Rey Rey

they played the 4-3 last year, my guess is it stayed the same since no changes have been made to the coaching staff

Love it Chambers! Nice work man. Only thing I'd do differently is take someone else isntead of Cushing at that point; only reason being injuries and he too had some steroid allegations I believe coming out of HS. I'd be more apt to taking a Brian Orakpo of Texas or Everrette Brown of Florida State, than a Cushing. All in all, nicely done.

That would suck! We NEED to re-sign Vernon because we have so many other needs and can't afford to be using ANOTHER top pick on a OT. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I can't get past the 1st round yet for 09. Right now I would go Crabtree. And then a whole lot of Defense.
