Bold”ish” Predictions about Sunday’s Game:

1) We’re going to struggle in the first half

I know I know, real shocker here, but hear me out on my reasons. Our coaching staff is at a real disadvantage this weekend. Due to the Titans having an entirely new coaching staff, our coaches really don’t know what to expect in terms of a scheme for this Sunday. Yes they can watch film on these coaches past schemes on other teams, and yes they can watch the preseason (in reality coaches show very little in the preseason), but it reality it’s just an educated guess at this point. I know we stole Luke Falk, the QB the Titans cut, but how much are we really pressing him for info? Can the Titans staff be trusted when they say they didn’t install everything before losing Falk?

The Titans coaching staff, on the other hand, have a plethora of film on us and what we’ve done the last few years. They know, for the most part, what to expect and will plan accordingly. I see them using defensive fronts and offensive formations we cannot entirely expect, and it will be at least into the 2nd quarter until we can adjust effectively.

2) Dion Lewis vs Kiko Alonso won’t last long, if at all

It’s a foregone conclusion that the Titans are going to try and abuse us with Dion Lewis, especially after watching the preseason film of what Christian McCaffrey did to Kiko Alonso. I can’t fathom our coaches expecting Alonso to cover Lewis one-on-one, especially on passing downs. Don’t be surprised to see us go into some sort of Dime package in passing situations and using a DB to stay with Lewis. Minkah, perhaps?

3) TJ McDonald will practically be playing LB

The Titans know we’re vulnerable against the run and will undoubtedly plan to pound the rock on the ground. Guess what? Our coaches know the same thing. How do we address it? We “stack” the box! And who’s best to “stack” our box with? TJ McDonald, that’s who! He’s playing well, fills run lanes nicely (usually), and is big enough to get physical with those blockers. Expect to see TJ closer than usual to the line of scrimmage, especially on neutral or running downs.

4) Tannehill will put the R in RPO (Run Pass Option)

We know the RPO is part of our offense. In the preseason Tannehill never kept the ball as there was no point in risking injury. Check the tape and you’ll see he was wide open on multiple occasions. I think you’ll see him hang on to the rock this weekend for several sizable gains.

5) Gesicki will be more effective out wide than at TE

Gesicki is a mismatch nightmare. Gase purposely underutilized him in the preseason and you can expect that to change this weekend. We’ll split him out wide and read the safety. If the safety shades way over to his side, it’ll open the middle of the field for our wide receivers. If the safety stays “honest,” Mike will abuse those poor defenders trying to guard him. This rookie has huge potential!

Christian McCaffrey has made a living making a lot of guys look foolish. He’s also a much better player than Dion Lewis.
I’m an old school guy and much more concerned with Henry and a power, time consuming run game.
This is a good game for Jordan Phillips to show up and dominate.

TJ really needs a good game. In these early season hot/humid games, the team that wins the running game and TOP usually win. We aren't good at either of those. Safeties need to show up early.

Drake will have a good game
We will have some dumb penalties
we will win the turnover battle
it'll be a low scoring game

To win, we will have to do it through the air ....

To win, we will have to score more than 21 points ....

I'm looking at the bolded section of your post where you point out that the Titans have a lot of tape on our last two years. I agree, they do.

You seem to feel they will use that against us.

Maybe, but I think we have an entirely different offense due to what I consider its strengths, 3 relay good RB's who can run, catch and block. A wide receiver group that is balanced in skill levels and not nearly as lopsided as last years basic one man band. Potentially the best TE group we have had in a long time, possibly decades. An offensive line that can protect Tannehill better, support runs better and be more penalty free then last year. A well rested QB who appears to be ready to start where he left off in 2016 and an offense that for the most part now knows the playbook, you know, the one that in the previous two years we had to dumb down to the point of ineffectiveness due to some of our "better" players mentalities. This should be enough to make the currently available tapes more of a misleading hindrance than a good plan for attack.

For practical purposes we can consider both teams as relatively unknown quantities whose performance will be hard to predict. I feel if we execute well most of the time and keep our penalties down we have every reason to expect a victory. I AM READY!!! :munch:

This game is really in the hands of Marcus Mariota. If he chooses to run.....we loose. We just have to hope he pulls a Seinfeld and just says,"I choose not to run."

I'm predicting that Tennessee will kill us with several big plays (40+ yards) this afternoon. Please, Dolphins....prove me wrong!!!!

I predict well played game. Tannehill over 290+ yards an 3 TD's
Sack Mary 4 Times. Get 2 Turnovers.
Drake over 100+
Gore over 50+
Defense comes up large and holds them under 100 yards rushing.

I predict we’re severely underrated, and we shut up all the doubters and it starts TODAY

That depends if he running by design, or running because receivers are covered, or running for his life.

Miami, despite all the questions defensively, has speed. They will be playing an extra safety a lot as well. That should cut down some of the freelancing, as long as everyone stays home with assignment sound football.

It's not that much to ask of a professional NFL team is it?

I was very pleased at the defense's performance today, especially with having to wait for ridiculous amounts of time during the lightning delays. The offense did a good job too and I'm happy to admit I was wrong with my game 1 predictions.
